For starters, do I recall correctly that SB bank is also house bank? Not on the boat so that makes these questions harder......

Secondly, I do not have the big panel with the 4 battery selectors. I have one single selector in each engine room. ON/OFF So.... how do I connect the two banks? (Emergency start)

On the lower helm there should be a button you push that says PAR.

Thanks. I'm going to have to ask these questions when on the boat.

Port bank is the house bank. Stb only starts the engine. Like Rusty said you can parallel both banks by using the switch if need be.

On my 1979 53' MY the starboard battery bank starts the starboard engine and runs some of the house 32 volt loads. The port battery bank starts the port engine and supplies most of the house 32 volts loads. My battery parallel switch (one on the flybridge and one on the lower helm) let's you parallel the batters using either the port or starboard battery to power the solenoid.

The switch is on the helm and it operates a solenoid in the battery room. It doesn't let you choose port or stbd, it simply connects the two banks together in parallel, like when jump starting a car.

I always use the parallel switch for cold starts. Before people start bellowing it’s unnecessary, to me at the price of batteries and starters anything you can do to minimize the load on each just by pushing a button is worth it.

On mine the parallel solenoid is on the gen room aft bulkhead, in the middle. Activated by a switch at the lower helm.

Using it on every cold start has a downside: you may not know when a battery bank is getting weak until both are.

This statement is not exactly true. If the starboard battery bank is dead you have to use the port battery bank to energize the parallel solenoid. If the port battery bank is dead you have to use the starboard battery bank to energize the parallel solenoid. It does connect the batteries in parallel like jumping a car but you have to have a good battery bank to energize the solenoid.

My battery parallel switch is a three position momentary contact switch, center "off", left for "port" jump and right for "starboard" jump.

Your switch and maybe others might not work like this but this is the way the factory installed mine. Was just saying did not want to start a debate.

Hatteras needs to offer a Motoryacht Type rating class.
