Hatteras Model
32' FLYBRIDGE FISHERMAN (1983 - 1987)
Does Slane Marine or anyone make vents for my 1985 32' FB? Mine are original and they seem to allow too much water in...even with the hoses hooked up for the bilge fans I still get water. (This oonly happens when its really sporty out there.) I want to eliminate it.

Thanks,

Jack

I had the same problem with my 1985 32' w/flybridge. I talked to Tom Slane, but he only had a leftover vent with a drain box from some other boat and it needed work. As we (my mechanic and I) saw it, we needed to have a drain box on the inside that would not allow water to come into the engine compartment, but drain out somehow and still let the air in.

As best as I understand, my mechanic designed a drain box made of quarter inch Starboard with a baffle in it. In the middle of the box, the baffle wall is attached to the bottom of the box to force the water to drain outside, and the top of the baffle has an opening so the air gets in without the water. It's really simple. On the inside top, he has a few 3-4" holes for the air to flow into the engine compartment with hoses attached to force the air down around the engines and a blower attached to one of them. It works great and since he installed them I have not had any water coming in.

If your interested, I could get a more specific and accurate design and write it up for you. Karl

Karl,

I'm definitely interested if you have the time! If you have a schematic or picture that would great.

Thanks,

Jack

My Email is jrs8818@msn.com or post it on the forum...something I'm not too good at.

Glad to help. Given Easter prep here, it may be next week before I get anything back to you, but I definitely will. I know only to well the aggravation of the problem. Karl

Jackman, just a note to let you know I haven't forgotten about you. I have made some drawings and taken some pictures today. I will meet with my mechanic tomorrow morning to be sure I got it right and will hopefully be able to send you the stuff tomorrow. Karl

Jackman,

I have pictures and a drawing for you, but I'm having a hard time downsizing everything for this website requirements. Here is my email address if you would email me your address to me and I'll send you the stuff:

"kshatt32@bellsouth.net".
