  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
i have a friend interested in a 1993 58 sportfisherman with 16-92's, looking for the good the bad and the ugly about this model....hit me with all you got

Well, they are 92s. Then there is 32 of them.
Each long block weighs 5000 lbs.
15 gallons of coolant, not including the HE.
23+ gallons of oil.
Base TA starts at 1000 HP.

If it is on the market, probably needs a re-build.
Can you point us to the web ad?

It takes a hardened Detroit fan with a BA check book.
Your friend will have new best friends working for him, maintaining those beast.
I am a DDC fan. That is to much engine for me to keep up..

Sadly, Other than the old (OLD) MTUs, and you want an ole 58 Hatt SF, this would be the power.
The boat it self,, Bomb Proof..

so far that is what i have told him,BIG BIG engines come with BIG BIG expenses

I looked at at a 58 thinking it might be just a little better than a 55. The 55 is the better model in my opinion regarding interior layout and outside style. To me the 58 looks too tall for its length. As far as 16v92s I don't know how many hours are too many before a rebuild is needed, I would like to hear from other members here that have them.

I don't think they built many 58s; I recall hearing that they weren't very popular boats. He might be better off looking for a 55 or a 60. I agree about the engines. Big, thirsty, and expensive to maintain.

I remember when it came out wasn’t well liked. That and the 65 really didn’t handle that well offshore in a following sea. Wasn’t until late 90’s 2000’s that Hatteras finally got the tunnels speed and engine setups figured out.

he likes the sportfish layout and style over a motoryacht, will be cruising and spending vacation and weekends on her, not fishing at all. the boat is in pretty good shape, only thing is those big thirsty engines. we have not gotten in to it deep enough to check engine hours, gen hours and what works and what doesnt. electronics are dated

16V92s are monsters in a 58 footer! I wonder how much a pair of factory remans 3412Es go for…

Just remembered;
2 raw water pumps per engine.
2 x 24Vdc starters per engine.
I found some Marine rated engines @ 1450 HP.

Probably the only (not so new design) engine, easily suited as a replacement or alternate.

from the brochure section they only made the 58 from 89 till 92 not sure where the seller came up with 93 model. capt. ralph it is on facebook marketplace in bay st. louis ms. she is a donated boat and the non profit is selling it.

That may be a lot of information rite there;; Donated boat..

Think these are the ads
I wonder how much that price tag can be leaned on.
One ad says 3000 hours on the engines, the other says 3000 and 50 on the stb.
Ya know that's the original OhNo 20.

From what you can see in the pics, which is limited, she doesn't look bad. I'm just not a fan of 92 series DDs, especially one that weight three tons and have 16 cylinders. I wonder what the boat weighs and how it performs. Big engines, but a lot to haul around.

looks pretty nice in person, needs some tlc. she has been sitting on the yard for about 2 years. fresh bottom, launched and she fired right up. capt says 24 knots at 1800

Here’s a deal

Great lines and layout. I would fall for the price and then listen to those engines purr until broke.

No prop tunnels draws a lot of water and will take a lot of fuel to hit 24kts. I’d be more afraid of the 50 hour engine than the 3000.

31 knots seems rather optimistic. I believe the 140 gal per hour.

Friend ran a 58 with 16's when they were new, fished with them once, can't remember exact speed other than it cruised at least 30 knots. It sure was a thrill the first time it laid over on it's side from hull suction, they had warned me just didn't really understand until it happened. They were smart to add some fiberglass athwartship strips/battons on an angle which ended their suction issue which most call "keel walk" instead of "cutting" the keel down.
I'm surprised more of these type boats are not going through complete renewals including repower with the price of new boats these days.
