  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
Did a Survey & sea trial on a 52' 1987 over the weekend. Rebuilt 8v92's-720 HP with 500 hrs since rebuild. Full of fuel & water, 4 adults on board, 12' of water and marlin tower, which will be removed. At 2150 RPM speed was 21.5 kts, at 2050 rpm 20.5 kts. Does this sound right? Power Boat Guide says 23kt cruise. 3-blased wheels 32' by 32?? Thanks in advance for your comments. Also have been told 55 gallons per hour at cruise?? Boat holds 1068 gallons. Any 52' owners know the true range, speed and gph at 2050 rpm's for this boat???

Sounds about right. There's a lot of the 45Cs that claim 23kt cruise too - yeah - at 2100 with a gallon of fuel and two of water, perhaps....

Reality is that I cruise at 18kts at 1850-1900 with a full load of fuel, water and gear, and top right around 23kts loaded. I can get 25, but only VERY light.....

If you turned up to 2350 light you're probably ok in terms of the engine setup and propping.

I took care of a 1988 52C that I also delivered when new. It had the 720 shp 8V92TAs. Cruise @ 2000 was 23 kts and 25 kts @ 2100. fuel burn about 75 gph. top speed with everything right was 29 kt@ 2350. Had 3 blade wheels, I think 33 x 32 cupped. the boat was sold in 1997 and still did 23 kt @2000 when I ran it to the east coast.
The one you looked would probably get fairly close without the tower. I have run a number of others also all were good running boats.

If you buy this boat and are going to remove the Marlin tower. Please contact me. I will be interested in it to put on my 50 since they are near the same boat. I have a Marlin tower that is in rough shape and could use a cosmetic upgrade. Thanks

The marlin tower has to be removed and is in very good shape. The boat is in Merritt Island, Florida. For pictures, check out any of the 1987 52's that you see on www.yachtworld.com in Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach or Harbortown.

Mike,

When will you be removing the tower?

Mike,

I sent you a PM

In depths as shoal as 12 ft, my 48 YF has a different wave/wake pattern..the waves move outward at a greater angle from the stern due to drag. But I'm usually running easy at about 11 knots. So my guess is you likely lost a bit of speed, maybe a a knot or so, if that was the depth during most of your sea trial...but at your greater cruise speeds I'm sure not positive..

I've got the same 8V92TI's in my 56 FDMY. At 2300 RPM, with full fuel and full water, live aboard type loading of the boat and 45 days since my last bottom cleaning - I made 18.6 knots this Sunday. 180-185 degrees on both engines.

Different boat I know, I believe my gross weight is around 88,000 lbs. bow thruster, stabilized, lift rails.
