44ft? Isn't that a 43?

Pictures look great. Appears to have three staterooms - I didn't know that the 43 DC came that way. Is this custom or factory?

The 43 DC had a version that was 44' and had two cabins aft.
I was on one in Va a number of years ago. Not a bad layout if you need 3 staterooms and want to stay under 50'.

The Powerboat Guide indicates that in 1980, a 3 stateroom option became optional on the 43 DC (1971-1984). It had 2 of the 3 staterooms forward of the salon. The 44 Triple Cabin (1968-1972) 3 stateroom version had 2 of the 3 staterooms aft of the salon. A 43 or 44 Hatt with 2 of the 3 staterooms aft, would be a 44 Triple Cabin (also available in a 2 stateroom version with a huge master stateroom).

A triple cabin 43DC is a pretty rare boat. There's only one on yachtworld right now:

Looks like a nice one for somebody! :)

The reason I asked if it was a 44 or a 43 is that I was on a 43DC with 3 cabins in the early 1980's. It was brand new and for sale at a Hatt dealer. I did not really care for it, because the third stateroom was forward of the salon and it looked like someone had just set a big "cargo box" in there. There was a huge open space between the top of that stateroom and the cabin top of the salon. It looked strange to me but maybe I was too critical since we had a 1975 43DC at the time with the traditional arrangement.

These are very nice boats, actually, and not all that common to find, if memory serves me right.

You're right !! It is a 43'. My wife put in the wrong length!!! Sorry, Merel

One of my previous boats was a 1980 43' Hatteras "Tri Cabin". The 3rd "cabin" was located on the stb side in the space that the galley normally is located. It was kind of tight but OK for kids or in a pinch for guests. Mine was eventually removed and replaced with a nice size dinette which would convert to a double bed, in a similar manner as most factory dinettes. The really nice thing I liked was the port side galley which was "raised" so as to place the galley slave in the social environment. I particularlly liked it since very often I was that galley slave. On the 79 or later 43 DC's the galley was as usual on the stb side down several steps with a dinette on the port side.

The engine room on the pre 79 models was much larger and easier to work in. As usual all boats have compromises
