  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' LRC (1975 - 1981)
So I was sitting on my 1967 Hatteras 44 TC the other day nearing low tide and I decided to put my depth sounder on to see how much water I had beneath the boat at mean low tide. I am wondering if anyone could give me a realistic draft for a 1975 Hatteras 58 LRC with full fuel and water. I have seen numbers in regards to draft anywhere from 5'2" to 6ft drafts. I am in the process of acquiring a 58 LRC and seem to have close to 5.5 feet of water in my slip at low tide. Would it hurt for her keel to sit in the mud a little bit or am I going to need to locate a new slip? I really hate to have to locate a new slip since my rate is so cheap at $375 a month for a 74' slip.

Thanks in advance for all your help and expertise,

Alex

Those draft numbers seem correct but your sounder could be offset so you might have 5ft of water under your keel. I wouldn't want my boat to sit with the keel in mud.

Tie the boat up to the dock, start the engines and put it in gear for an hour or so , forward and reverse. Make it as deep as you need. As long as you have soft bottom there .....Pat

Been there, done that. It works! Called prop dredging.

or the guys in the slips on either side of you

Mine sits in the mud very often. Doesn't hurt anything, but I am very soft mud/silt. I wouldn't want the keel to sit on a rocky bottom, but hasn't hurt anything for me--I just make sure it's not in the mud when I come/go.

Would you change your raw water impellers after you do reverse for a while?

Six foot draft is correct on my 1976 58' LRC.
