Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
As Pascal knows, I'm retiring on May 4th after 42 yrs at the phone company... They offered me an extra 79 weeks of pay along with all the other stuff I get to leave..... SEE YA...

Now a few of the things on my "to do" list....

A. Replace my Loftran Progess II windlass
B. Replace both of my damn CruiseAir POS
C. Place an Inverter
D. Install an Electa San and replace the head in master stateroom
E. Paint nonskid on the decks

Any and all input on what's the best way or places to buy any of the above... Let me know..
Will be starting most of these the end of May (after i get the $$$$$).

The exception is E.. Will be painting the nonskid within a couple of weeks... What paint have any of you used do you like? Last time I just used "Topside" and put the nonskid sand crap into the paint and it came out POORLY....

Pascal knows? Lemme guess, he wanted his phone repaired on May 5th?

Congrats, Charlie... AT&T won't be the same, and that has to be a step in the right direction regardless of how you look at it.

For C, inverter - as often mentioned here, go with Outback inverter with The Mate controller, particularly if you have a 32V system.

Congratulations and good luck! I hope you enjoy being retired as much as I do. People sometimes ask me, "Do you ever miss..." Before they even finish I reply, "Not for ONE SECOND."

I second the inverter recommendation re the Outback/Mate.

I removed our lectra-san last year. It had been causing some problems - leaks and I had to buy a new top a few years ago. Started doing it again so I took it out. I decided that since they are not legal to use anyway for discharging waste except offshore (despite the fact that they produce treated waste that is cleaner than what the sewage treatment plants dump into the water), and it needed work again, I took it out.

I liked it because it helped ensure no holding tank odor since the waste was treated before going into the tank. But since it produces chlorine for treatment, I just pour a bit of clorox in the heads occasionally. The results are the same - no odor from the tanks.

Again - enjoy retirement!!

I replaced my Raritan PHE II with the Elegance model on my 43. It looks a lot better, has a larger bowl, flushes WAY better, and there's a whole lot less commotion. I couldn't find a better price than Defender.

AFAIK, a LectraSan is legal except for "no-discharge" areas, which as of now are still relatively few. The newest LectrsScan is rated very highly in its treatment abilities. Neither work well on the Chesapeake due to not enough salinity. Getting the salt feed right is a huge PIA.

+1 on the Raritan Elegance head from Defender.

BTW - Congrats on the retirement!

Right re the Ches and salt/lectran. We had the salt feeder attachment for ours which worked fine - you just had to fill the container with salt-water solution periodically. Even LI sound in many areas was not salty enough to use the 'san without the attachment.

Re the dumping regs - it's my (possibly incorrect understanding) that the 'san (or any other waste treatment unit) doesn't change your "status" re dumping waste. IOW, either you can legally dump waste in an area or you can't. Having a 'san/treated waste doesn't make any difference as far as the rules are concerned.

From Raritan's site:

Is the Lectra/San legal in all waters?

No. The Lectra/San is legal in most navigable and coastline areas where salt water is available and a tidal flow in and out exists. It is not legal in Federally designated no discharge areas.

So what non skid paints do you like and have used? That's number one on my list..
And I did sign the official retirement papers this morning so it's now 100% official.....:cool:

charlie, you beat me to retirement by 1 year 7 months and 22 days............please enjoy
for nonskid, i am going to use kiwigrip, it is a do it yourself type of stuff. yachtsmanbill has it on the hatt trick for a couple of years now, maybe he will chime in and tell us a little bit about how it is holding up.

I like Awlgrip with 'sharkskin' grit and an overcoat of Algrip. You may not be able to apply Awlgrip over a one part W/O priming.

PS, you can roll the Awlgrip, but it is best to dry spray a very light coat of the grit into the still wet Awlgrip. Then roll over that after blowing off any loose dust.

Hi All,

We've had great luck using Brightside combined with their non-skid additive.
