  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
54' MOTOR YACHT (1985 - 1988)
I am looking for a set of mounting cradles to fit my 13' 2001 Boston Whaler Sport. The older style Whaler cradles do not fit the Sport model.

i've made cradles both for my heavy 13' tender and also for a waverunner on the boat i run using starboard. easy to built, no corrosion and a lot less expensive.

the triangles holding the supports are cut from the base and assembly is with SS screws (screws hold very well in SB)

picture was taken during assembly, additional supports on the inside are missing on the pics, one at each end

Looks like it would hold water. Did you put some drain holes in there?

Thanks for the ideas.

The chocks that are on the boat now are UMT stationary style for a 12' Avon. UMT wants about $900 for same style for the 13' Whaler Sport. I was hoping to sell the Avon chocks and find someone who had the Whaler Sport chocks who was looking to change to another type dink. The Whaler Sport has a different bottom configuration from the classic Whaler.

Regarding the simple linear chocks Pascal mentioned, wouldn't the dink tend to rock on those?

Bill I have a 2007 13 Sport with traditional lateral chocks. I personally prefer this to the linear style, among other things it makes it easier to put a cover on the tender. However, I think a properly designed linear set up, with cushioned, angled tops, could work/ Maybe something as simple as stainless or anodized piping, which could solve the cover tie down issue. Thing is the linear gets in the way on the boat deck and is more of a tripping hazard when launching/retrieving.

no rocking... although if you want you can make them a little longer and adjust the shape to match the hull.

no water issues, the base isn't sealed to the deck so water goes out under the base. This one, for the Jetski, is removable so that we can use the top deck when the jetski and tenders are in the water.

I see now what you are describing. That must be on the Palmer. On a Hatteras I worry about not sealing(caulking) something like that to the deck. It seems anywhere that water can sit between two surfaces tends to lead to blisters. I looked at several 53's that had blisters on the deck by the PH doors where water was trapped by a door mat of some type.

The Whaler has kind of an odd ball cathedral type hull, so doing a linear is not so straight forward. And moving the chocks around once the tender is in the air during launching isn't that appealing a prospect to me, at least on my boat. I have to push the tender amidships to swivel it around over to the starboard side for launch. No way for a linear rig.

PS Sky, as a midwesterner you are thinking of Palmer Johnson. The boat he captains is a Johnson.

Right. Sorry, I guess that's exactly what I did. :)
