12 volts to 6 volts

Is there a way to reduce 12 volts to 6 volts? I have an intrusion alarm system that runs on 4 AA batteries (6 volts) and I'd like to wire it into the house 12 volt system. As it is now, I have to replace the batteries every 4 weeks ... a major PITA ... especially when the alarm begins to go off to advise you that the batteries are weak! Thanks!

Why not get a 6 volt DC ( I assume since its batteries ) power supply that plugs int the AC system on the boat. This way the unit if on shore power and always hot. You can set it up with a battery back up ( the 4 AA batteries ) too.
