hEY tIM, if that one doesn't work out, I can get you a deal on a Mossberg Mariner. New in the "box". I think it's a tad over $500 if I remember correctly.

And he'll sell you a safe to put it in.

Thanks do have to buy the safe?? I will let you Monday or Tuesday

Local via Craigslist is definitely the easiest way to go! No paperwork involved.
That said, I sent you a PM the other day about a Mossberg Mariner I'm willing to part with if you want.

Nope, no additional purchase necessary. I might even bring it to you.

Duck season? May be headed your direction for something else. Then again, come to think of it, it would have to be shipped to a local gun dealer.

So, as long as we're on the topic....

Does anybody have any firsthand experience with either the Remington or Mossberg in the marine environment?

Mossberg advertises "Marinecote" and Remington describes the finish as "electroless nickel" which I'll assume is plating. I'm just curious what "Marinecote" actually is and how does either finish actually hold up.

Why bother? NY is outlawing guns, aren't they?

Don't get me started.

Depends on what you want to call "marine" environment. For most of us, out guns are kept in enclosed closets and away from the elements. As long as they're well oiled, they'll never rust. Add Marinecote into the equation and it will last a long time. Mine stayed in an oiled sleeve in a closet for a few trips (Mossberg Marine), so I really don't have any long term experience, but I conceal carry several types of .45's all the time aboard and have never had an issue with rust. Again, they stay well oiled and are wiped down regularly.

I've also talked to several marine patrol guys that carry 24/7 aboard. While they obviously take good care of their weapons, they don't experience any rust problems.
