Have a 1973 38' Hatteras FBDC with starboard transmission locked in forward. When shifted to reverse, it kills the engine. Suppose it must be removed and rebuilt or replaced. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The troubleshooting guide gives three possible problems ... all sound quite serious.

1973 38’ FBDC - Is the generator fuel line pickup in the port tank higher than the engine pickup? The generator is not getting fuel from a tank with about 1/4 full. Engines work fine.

Yes, it's entire life in Georgian Bay, part of Lake Huron. Water is clear for about 10' to 12' down. The bottom was perfectly clean after several years in the water when I picked it up last September. Now in Lake Erie ... not so good. Both previous owners had used it like a trawler ( 8-10 kts)...
