Does anyone know anything about this boat -- a huge -- and I mean huge -- sportfish convertible. I assume it is a custom.
Saw it in Beaufort NC last Friday evening.
Hailing port was Road Harbour. Never seen a bow as tall. I would say 85-90 feet long. It was so big Beaufort Town Docks had...
I love to see boats with transom lighting at night -- and I enjoy watching the sea life attracted to the lights at night.
Is there any difference in sea life attraction between the different colors of lights? I like the blue and green lights -- but last weekend all I saw were white lights --...
I see a pretty good number of convertibles with swim platforms, and while some are obviously never fished -- some with platforms do appear to be fished some (in that they have fighting chairs and other signs of fishing).
How big of an impediment to fishing is a swim platform on a C?
I know some Hatt convertibles had large keels in the 70's and 80's -- and yet very few new convertibles I see on the hard have keels at all. And all have that sharp entry and Carolina flare with a rather flat bottom at the transom.
I also know that in 82, Hatteras shortened the keel on some...
How boats are painted fascinates me, especially convertibles. Seems that most Hatts, Vikes and Oceans in the 70's and 80's had a version of a house "off white" with varying degrees of teak trim. The Hatt color seems to age much better than Vike's, for example.
Lately I've seen a lot of newly...
Want to make sure I don't screw up some protocol -- but I have no idea what the tip protocol is for delivery captains. Here's the deal:
The guy charged normal -- 350 a day -- and was provided very good food and beverage (very good galley scotch we provided) each evening along with average...
I think I understand the idea behind trolling valves -- a way to release pressure on the engines turbo'd up for high HP that spend a lot of time at troll.
I guess this is a must for charter boats that troll 1000 hours a year.
What about for boats that will spend a few hundred hours a year at...
Having an engine survey done in conjunction with general survey and sea trial next week. The Detroit diesel tech is I think trying to sell the idea of a three or four day survey, including a full day for compression testing, etc. He says we are looking at four grand for that.
This sounds a bit...
What is the hull speed of the mid 80's 45 and 46 C models? I assume they are similar.
What kind of GPH can be assumed with that speed? Assume normal weighting.
I am a bit unclear as to how the production of the 45 and 46 convertibles over lapped -- or not -- in the 80's.
Could someone clear this up for me, and explain the differences between the two? I have seen one place where the 46 was called a drier ride -- and another with the opposite...
Very close to making formal offer on a 1985 45C. Saw it today along with a 46 and a 48 Viking -- and those two were in rough condition -- but my wife, son and I all liked the 45C.
While I plan to peruse this site to learn quickly from archives, I would like to know if my assumptions here are...
