    Steering on plane

When on plane the boat steers easier to port than starboard. It's about 50% harder to turn the wheel clockwise. At slow speed it's easy both ways. Hydraulic system is in good shape. Would toe in or out of the rudders have this effect?

    Battery testing

I have 4 group 31 agm's as a house bank and would like to test them as I believe one may be failing. Is there a way to test battery capacity/health when the specific gravity of the acid cannot be taken?

    NL M844* HE Cleaning?

This yanmar service advisory doc has it the other way. As you say, should be in the manual.

    Mildew during lay up.

I get mildew forming on the woodwork while boat is laid up. It's not a big deal as cleans off easily but I've picked up a packet of mildewcide from Ace hardware, Sun Pac. Active ingredient is paraformaldehyde. Anyone know if there is likely to be issues leaving this in the boat for a couple of...

    Galley remodel

Hope you don't mind me adding a few photos of my install. Used a similar 33" whirlpool after original ge packed up. Only side by side I could find that would fit. We didn't want ice and water through door but do have the internal ice maker installed. Galley range is propane which I understand is...

    life raft location

Gary, I previously used a chain hook but that just gets snarled up in the pulpit when retrieving. It is the weight forward of the chain bite point that makes it work. As soon as the chain is tensioned the plate drops off and sits under the boat. Of course normally I recover the bridle straight...

    Cruseair help

The a/c has been shut down for six months and when powered up from the breaker, even though off on the smx II panel, the raw water pump runs and continues to do so until the breaker is turned off. Also the unit doesn't stop cooling at the set temperature. The cooling light goes off on the panel...

    Rudder toe in.

I've finally got around to measuring the rudder alignment and find they are parallel, no toe in or out. The tie bar between the rudders has a central boss about 12" long and a collar each side of it. I expected there to be a left and right hand thread and to rotate the boss to either lengthen or...

Holding tank pump out pickup location

Just a photo of my solution 4 years ago. I should have cut the end at 45*, I've since had to go back and do it. 1 1/2" pvc roughed up and epoxied in.

    Holding tank dip tube replacement

1 1/2" pvc to replace rotted copper pipe. Roughed up and epoxied in, 4 years all ok. Should have cut end at 45*.

    Engine room insulation

The engine room overhead is insulated with 1" foil faced insulation. In some areas the glue is failing and it is falling down, I've been using fender washers and screws but the material itself is not very rigid so sags anyway. Some of the insulation is more rigid and has held up well with the...

    Generator vs Batteries

I have the inverter arrangement for the fridge and quiet nights at anchorage scenario but with the expense and complication of the inverter and it's batteries I also see the benefits of the original generator only set up. I did lose the first inverter which added to the cost and the replacement...

    Water tank leaks

Before reinventing the wheel thought I'd ask here first. My centerline water tank leaks somewhere around 7/8ths full. I did once repair the top of the tank where I guess the baffles attach inside, this cured a couple of major leaks. I have looked for the source but am pretty sure it's on the...

    Turbo rebuild

Few pics of the port riser I've made. Hopefully it will fit ok when I get to the boat Wednesday. Mocked the salon floor and supports up above the riser from measurements taken last time at boat, what could possibly go wrong! Plan on a trip to Exumas with family on Sunday so no pressure.

    Turbo rebuild

My turbo's require a rebuild or replacement. Main issue is corrosion in the exhaust port giving more clearance around the turbine, other is a slight oil leak from the bearings. Does anyone know if the exhaust port can be machined out and sleeved or is the best solution new turbo's.

    Simrad control head wanted

My Simrad AP20 autopilot control head has a slowly failing screen. Anybody out there have a control head they no longer require or maybe a source for just the screen? Thanks Colwyn.
