    handheld chartplotter

I want to use our runabout on Lake Michigan and the rivers, so I want a good handheld chartplotter. Maybe a tablet that works even when out of range of cell signals?

    Spectacular Dinghy!

Check out this ATV/Jet Boat. How great would it be to use it as a dinghy? If only I had a bigger boat and a spare $50K. http://www.hammacher.com/Product/12533

    Has anybody tried PloyGlow?

Sold our 53MY a few years ago, but I also have an older ski boat (1998 Mastercraft 200VR) that the gel coat was totally chalky. I saw good reviews of the PolyGlow product to put the shine back on older boats, so I tried it when I put the boat in the garage last Fall. It is a very thin clear...

Living on the Water - Cheap!

Not a Hatteras, but this guy definitely figured out how to do it with low capital requirements and engine maintenance can be done by dragging it to a service station. Nice sundeck too.

His & Hers dairy for a day

HIS AND HER DIARY FOR THE SAME DAY: HER DIARY: Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no...

    53MY windshield Wiper Springs

I got new stainless steel springs for my windshield wipers from SAMs. They're very strong. Is there any trick I should know to install these? Do I need to try to remove the wiper assembly, or just unhook and rehook in-situ?They feel too strong to try to stretch them to hook up in place...

Replacing Fuller Brush Window Gaskets - EASY!

You know how "Nothing is ever simple" applies to fixing anything on a boat? Well I'm sure you others knew this but I didn't... replacing the window gaskets is really simple. One of my 2 forward stateroom Fuller Brush windows could drip a little if we got into big seas that crash into the bow...

Thinking of Selling - Re: Selling Agents?

We're thinking of selling our big toy (1978 53MY) and I've never sold a boat before. I don't want 100 e-mails from agents offering to list her, but I would appreciate comments from experienced frequent HOF contributors about what's good and what's not, or who's good and who's not. I know the...

    Tucandu in the fog

We had a chance meeting on the Mobile river with fellow HOF'er Bill Root. He and Kathleen were in Columbus, MS when we were there and caught up with us at Bates Lake, 54 miles above Mobile. I got this picture of their 43DC in the morning fog before we left. Thought it was kind of cool...

    Bill's Coming - and I don't mean Yachtsman

We just left Nantucket today (Friday), after watching 53MY Hatteras "Carpe Diem" come into a nice slip in the Nantucket harbor on Thursday. Now, Hurricane Bill is supposed to just glance the island, staying mostly offshore. Waves there are supposed to be at least 20 ft. I hope everything will...

    Rudder Toe-In?

What is the proper rudder toe-in for a 1978 53MY and how do you check and adjust it? It would sure be nice if it could be done in the lazarette instead of having to haul the boat. Doug Shuman

NOAA Great Lakes Wind & Waves Forecast site

NOAA is doing some cool stuff. For you Great Lakes cruisers, there's a reallly good NOAA wind and waves forecast site that is better than the usual NOAA stuff. Go here: http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/ Then, for example, click on "Great Lakes Waves" and then click on the "Jump To" and...

    New Finding!

I have found that if I drink half a beer or Coke quickly, I can burp Barack Obama's name perfectly. You have to remember save a little for the "Obama" part because it's so much fun to say "Barack" when burping. Now I know this, it stays in my mind and I'll unconsciously do it. It's kind of like...
