    Source for Detroit exhaust blankets

Once again I will be replacing my blankets on port side after exhaust leaks are addressed. Rather than run this through the mechanic I am going to DIY. Didn't come up with much searching online. Maybe I am using the wrong wording.

Adding cleats and chocks for anchor bridal 82 46' SF

Upgrading our anchoring setup to compliment the awesome 70 pound Delta anchor we put on for the Bahamas. Added 92' of chain and will be purchasing a bridal. With our shower built into the V of the boat I have great access to install backing plates for the 12" cleat on the deck and the 6" chock...

    Joined a Yacht Club 😱

Yep, Clearwater Yacht club. Was never ever interested in anything like it but new boating friends (over the course of a few years) assured us the “Thurston Howell the 3rd” deal was a thing of the past and things are more casual. So we went in for the weekends in Clearwater plus the reciprocity...

    8-92 used the wrong oil

Last year before run to Bahamas I decide with 40 hours on the 2024 oil change it can't hurt to pull out 5 gallons a side and replace with fresh oil. Didn't look at the blue pails of 400 that they said were 100. So I ran 80 hours with the high ash oil. Didn't notice any change in oil consumption...

    1988 48c

Friend is selling his boat that he bought at the wrong time in his life. Then he moved off of the water. Can be found by searching for 48 Hatteras for sale. In Madeira Beach FL. Has Detroit 8-92's and run clear after a few seconds on a cold start. Clean inside and out. Engine room could use some...

    Dumb question, galley maid stator

How hard to change other than wrestling with pump mounted under a stair? Really other than tips my big question is I have a couple on the boat that were on board in 2018 when I bought it. Are they worth using or do I need new? Scott, can you help when over for the other stuff? I’m pretty bad...

    34C electrical drawings

Anyone have a set? Need to ID some abandoned conductors in the harness going up to the bridge to reuse for 12V feed. Also at some point I lost one of the battery feeds to the electric panel switch. Incoming feeds are labeled 192 and 193 but not seeing those in the ER. I had these at one point...

    Keeping fresh water tanks drinkable

For those that drink water out of the tanks what is the method used to keep it clean? Our RV sank in the storms (twice) this year and is totalled. New one has an ice maker that we would like to use. What is the best way to treat the tank without affecting taste?

Keeping fresh water tanks worthy of drinking

Wondering what you guys do. Not for my boat but for my new RV. Other one sank twice this year. Totalled. New one comes with an ice maker. We typically just use water to brush teeth and wash dishes. If we want to use ice maker we have to trust it it is safe. So for those that use tanks for...

    Paid for another month

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water (as in bring the boat home) more BS in the south. So paid up for another month in the hurricane hole. Was supposed to bring home tomorrow. Getting old as if it isn’t already.

    Imagine this

A 12-92 is just used as a starter. Very cool. In fact cooler than cool. Gets a Giggity Giggity Goo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yVbU3pm1K8

Anyone in touch with Linda Disesa?

Wondering of she is okay from the flooding in Mad beach. We are out of state. BOATSB asking if we were around to check but we are not. Also most who we know stayed have left due to the power situation. She probably evacuated but we need check. Anyone able to contact her?

    Free 28x24.75 2 1/2" port prop.

Long story told on my Bahamas trip ordeal but this prop is now an orphan. It is good for a spare, not a primary. Due to pitch change over the years while weight balanced it has a vibration (not bad) at speed due to shape, most likely at the hub. Was just reconditioned and pitched but swapped out...

    Check out Deez Nutz

Finally ready and going on after Labor Day weekend. Smaller 4 wheel slightly higher pitch is supposed to work better than bigger wheels with the 1:5 ratio gears. We shall see. Docking will be improved.

    Detroit Myths debunked

Myths are just that. I was waiting for 5 full years of ownership to post something like this. Getting close to 6. Detroit’s are cheap by other standards to rebuild. Yes parts sourcing can be a not so fun game. Potentially equal value replacements as I has to deal with on turbo’s. They don’t...

    Prop tech advancements

So we all know a new set of props is in my future. Was trying hard to buy a new set of 4 blades but all have lead times that will not help me. Taking a step back and moving forward more slowly and not in a reactionary way. Did plan on going to 4 blade props next year as I cruise the boat at...

    My bad day

Ran aground on plane. Here is a link to what I posted on THT where I'm seeking some local knowledge. Anyone here have experience in the OWW? I can't figure out how I went wrong other than no good deed goes unpunished when I let the oncoming guy have the wrong side of the channel...

    Prop vibration

Long story short. Bought boat in 2018. 2019 have new (and qualified) mechanic on board. Says I have a bad vibration on port side. Check cutlass. I do. Cutlass bearings needed and all replaced. Much smoother. Seems good to me. FF to this year. Haul out. Recondition props. PM. Splash. Trip home...

    No good deed goes unpunished

Getting ready for our trips I figured I’d change the generator pump out for a new one I bought a year or two ago so we start out fresh. Start up yesterday to test and all is good. Arrive at anchorage today and I noticed light steam from exhaust. And not enough water. I have the original pump...

    Making an anchoring bridle

Had a long chain on my 34. Got rid of it due to heavy snap in seas. Formed an opinion that I don't like much chain. Have had great results with only 20' of chain on both the 34 and now the 46. Think the success is due to setting properly, stern anchor when needed, or just simply paying attention...
