What's everybody in Fla doing about Irma?

Looks like things have stabilized over the last 12 hours as much as you could expect. Looking like Irma coming into Mia area as a cat 4 and buzsawing up the state. I'm in Pa headed back to VERO tomorrow night. My Co Captain Derek has the boat pretty well secure. I was wondering what Pascal and...

    Andrew 25 years ago

You just never know. No one expected Andrew to be the strength or tract it took until too late. I flew the first private relief flight into Homestead and the destruction was comparable to a nuclear blast. Never let your guard down.

Time to sit up and pay attention

Two systems being tracked as Invest 90 and 99 have the chance of being named. Best guess on timing I made here (not official). Ironically GFS and EURO are split on both systems. GFS aggressive on 99 but not 90 and EURO is aggressive on 90 but not 99. Strong high pressure in the Atlantic might be...

    32V battery replacement

That time again. This is the 8th set of batteries I've put in the boat over the last 40 years. All but a couple sets I've done myself. Looking back at past invoices I paid$99 ea for 819's jumped up to $109 in the 80's now it's just obscene. Used to buy them from Anthracite battery in...

    Crash pad

Way to much reliance on electronic navigation both on the sea and in the air. The electrons stop flowing and 90% of the people don't know which way is north. http://gcaptain.com/maib-experienced-launch-skippers-reliance-on-ipad-navigation-app-contributed-to-collision-on-humber-river/

    Hurricane debris

The ICW and about everywhere I've been even in the ocean is loaded with debris. A lot of it particularly submerged. This one was a real beaut.

I've done all I can up to God now.

Been through 9 hurricanes 7 on board. This is the first time in 40 years I've left the boat. France's and Jeanne we were in the Ne eye wall and saw steady 120 but with this at 140 with 165 gusts it was time to go. I flew the first group of VNA Dr's and Nurses into Homestead after cat5 Andrew and...

In need of a new generator

I'm looking at replacing my 50 y/o OHNO with a new genny. Any recommendations on where to get a good deal on a 15 kW on the east coast. I'm a cash and carry customer and will install myself.
