    Engine water hose What type?

I have a water leak where the hose connects the copper tube running from the thermostat to the heat exchanger. The engine is a 671ti 390 hp Covington. The copper tube measures 2.25 inches OD and the hose slips over the tube. Hope it is just a matter of replacing the hose. Advice on the...

    Puppy beach training

Marie's new puppy went with us for the first time on Lilly Marie to the island yesterday. He is a 3 month old Cavalier/Poodle named Bates. He did fine on the boat; however after the hour boat ride, I took Bates to the island for him to take care of business. He enjoyed the beach, played, ran...

    2/0 Battery Cable for 12v 671s?

Sorry for the misleading title, should have said 12 volt. Lilly Marie, 1983 43DC has 2 pairs of 12v batteries between the 671ti's. The current cables appear to be 4/0 welding and the insulation has gotten soft and swollen and the wire strands show corrosion. It does not look like a Hatteras...

Inverter Battery Bank - Lug vs SAE Terminal connections

Blinking Power Light on Electronics Panel

The power indicator light for the DC electric panel on the stb side of the saloon has been burned out since we bought the boat. I replaced the bulb and notice that after it lights up, it then flashes much like a buoy light. Is it supposed to blink? Thanks,

LED Lights for the Engine Room

Lighting in the ER is not very good. I made some fixtures for 48 SMD LED lights and am running two strings of lights off of the electronics DC electric panel on the stb side of the saloon. The lights draw <4 watts each and I am installing 10 of them using 2 of the breakers, one breaker for the...

What is really needed in an inverter?

Best I can plan it, on Lilly Marie, an inverter would only run when neither the AC nor the stove is needed. The maximum inverter cycle would be between breakfast and dinner, 10 hours at most with 2 hours generator between. Powering the refrigerator, chest freezer, coffee maker, stereo, and...

Lost Diagram of Electric Wiring for 43DC 1983

I had an owners manual complete with blueprints including a drawing identifying the numbers on the wiring. A leaking hatch soaked the papers and ruined the blueprints. Does anyone know how to obtain a copy of the wiring diagram. Thanks

Battery Charger Quit - How to find the problem

I discovered a dead house battery bank Sunday. It looked like the problem was corrosion on the negative terminal. I used an automotive charger to restore the batteries (they had 7% charge) while I was cleaning all the terminals and connections. The fwd 8d would not hold a charge so I went to...

    New Wet Bar Ice Maker

The wet bar icemaker quit for the second time and the repairman said it needed to be replaced. After pricing a new one, I questioned the value of an $800 plus appliance which made ice I would not put in my drink. I found a 2.1 cf chest freezer for about $250 which I could use to freeze one...

Where to Connect Ground Wire for NMEA 2000

I have the Noland RS11 and a Garmin NMEA 2000 starter kit and hope to set up electronic gauges to the 4212 plotter this weekend. The NMEA power cord has 3 wires, pos neg and ground. Lilly Marie is a 43 dc with a 12v system. I plan on connecting the pos and neg to wiring under the helm gauges...

    Systems Monitor - 3 Point

The alarm for both engines will randomly go off while the engine keys are turned off. The only solution to stop the alarm is to remove the fuses. This stops the howling but hardly fixes the problem. Any experiences with or at least suggestions regarding the best way to fix this problem? Thanks

Secondary fuel filter vent plug stuck, How to remove

The stbd engine, 671ti shut down and changing the Racor element and bleeding the air ine the line got it running. However I had to loosen the secondary filter nut to release the air, as I could not get the vent plug free. I put as much force as I dared with a 1/4" Allen wrench. I woder if...

Shark Climbs Aboard Hatteras - Children Flee

SHARK CLIMBS ON TO SWIM PLATFORM CHILDREN FLEE SHARK JUMPS OFF Friends and family rode Lilly Marie to Sand Island yesterday and we anchored next to a neighbor's 35c. Nearly 2 ft of rain from Isaac turned the Mississippi Sound into river water, but fresh water didn't interfere with...

    Matching Paint

The paint store did a fine job matching the paint color for the aft deck. However, I hase to extend some paint to the the cabin side and when I applied it to a small area it appears a shade too dark. I wonder if it is worthwhile to have the paint store use their camera to match the different...

Boat Shopping, how to value equipment and extras

A friends request for advice on boat shopping got me thinking. How to best evaluate available boats. The goal is to get the best, not just the most boat for your money. You narrow things down to a Hatteras, for instance a 43 DC or MY, the next question is deciding which boat gives you the...

    Boat Coffee Tools

We are pretty serious about coffee, and are accustomed to strong french roast coffee mixed 50/50 with hot milk. Warming the milk and dealing with the mess on the boat prompted me to search for a new tool. I found on Amazon, what seems to be ideal. Capresso Froth Pro It heats 8 oz of milk...

Windshield Frame Leaks and Results - How is the frame anchored?

A moisture meter is a dangerous thing to play with. After finding an area of significant moisture in front of the windshield I felt compelled to do something, and had no plans to run the boat Sunday. There was a lot of moisture, no water just in front of the frame, apparently coming from the...

    Rainwater and Shorepower Cords

Or, one thing I learned at the Rendezvous. I have 30amp Smartplugs on the boat and use 2 short cords with male twist lock plugs to connect to box at home. The box at the Wharf is a little further away from the boat connection so I used 2 additional cords creating a connection hanging down at...
