Good Video on Tuning the beast

This video is a good tutorial on valve and injector setting and running the rack. He kinda barely mentions you have to set each fuel rod. I've seen other methods that to me are more accurate...like a vice grip on the rack so can actually feel the pushback as each fuel rod bottoms.. but, it's a...

    Valve Cover Breather Cap Removal

I follow this guy on Facebook/YouTube, and his work. He's got me wanting to have my valve covers media blasted and either polished or powder coated. Does anybody know how to remove the breather housing from the valve cover? https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=_7dOCb6tY1w

    Pump out adapter.

Went to the dock to pump out today, and sadly... somebody before me lost the deck adapter. So, thought I should keep a couple aboard. I went to order them, but not sure if the thread/diameter. I measured the deck plate opening at 1 7/8.. dont know thread or nozzle diameter... anybody carry these...

And on to the next project!

This is the leaking oil cooler line between my 12v71ti and MG514C twindisc tranny. I'm going to drop it off at the hose shop tomorrow. This hose is unmarked. Anybody aware of USCG regs about hydraulic hoses... SAE1527 A1 or anything like that?

    Water Heater Replacement

One of my surprises knocking the dust off the boat this year is the Water Heater ruptured! It was 24 years old so who would have thought. Fortunately, Rheem still makes a very similar unit.. but 1.5 inches shorter. The water lines were 3/8 tubing with flare fittings. I converted to normal 3/4...

    Oil Cooler Line

I'm waiting on parts on the genny project and using the down time to replace a leaking transmission oil cooler line. I've got MG514c's going to 12v71ti's. I need to crack this fitting, but I'm unfamiliar with it. The nuts are 1.5 inches and the wrenches are 24 inches.. so I can do so damage...

    Possible OhNo MDL4 issue.

I haven't got around to installing the new Kohler genset yet.. but it looks great on the trailer. The boat has been at UT stadium for the last 2 month, and running on the OhNo. Sunday, the Bosch Axxis dryer wouldn't run, and no dispay.. just dead. The washer, which plugs into the dryer, works...

    Salon Furniture

When I spec'd out the salon furniture, I had the chase section made a little shorter than it should have been. Shame too because that where I like to read and my feet hung over the edge. I thought about getting a longer section made, but wifey suggested an alternative. Glastop made a matching...

    How Much Does It Cost

Often prospective Hatteras owners will inquire about the cost of maintaining these beasts. I just finished some basic stuff and the cost is fresh. I changed the engine and transmission oil, engine zincs, and raw water impellers. 35 Gallons of 40wt appropriately rated oil. $630 4 engine filters...

    MG514C Pressures

I'm changing my transmission oil, filter and screen today. Someone had asked about operating pressures and while I had the manual out

    New prop shaft packing.

I redid my prop shaft packing. I did it about 4 years ago, lot of hours and miles since. I was surprised the condition still looked pretty good. A little stiffer, and it appears to have filtered some Tennessee clay from the river... I used, same as last time, 1/2 inch DuraMax Ultra-X. Yes, I did...

    New Generator (s)

After much deliberation, I've decided to retire my 20kw Onan MDL4. This is a forced retirement as the unit still works just fine. It has had a small oil leak since I bought the boat. Not much, just a few drops a day, maybe a cup a month. I decided to finally figure out where it was coming from...

    Whaler Upholstery

I know this is a Hatteras forum, but many of us have Boston Whaler tenders. My Dauntless upholstery was looking ratty, and although my wife could have made new covers, I got a new set from Specialty Marine. I'm impressed. Ready to install, new foam, and even the snaps matched up to original! Big...

    Little things make a difference!

We redid our guest head last year. The GalleyMaid head was looking ratty, and we considered all the alternatives. In the end, we updated what we had. Put in new stainless screws and beauty washers. Replaced the clear air line with black, replaced the bronze fitting on the back with PVC and a...
