    A pleasant surprise...

Well, I had a pleasant surprise today working on the boat. I am redoing some things in the forward head and the wallpaper needed to go. I had decided to just pull it, sand it, and paint it for now, until I decided what would be better... Instead, I discovered that the same veneer that is in...

    Paint colors

Looking to do some paint touchups, and repaint a couple of pieces, the deckboxes, etc... Not sure what to make of these paint codes, my understanding is that the boat is repainted with Awlgrip, but these paint codes don't line up with anything I have found color wise? The second pic is a note...

    316 stainless (among others) fasteners

Wanted to share that I found what seems to be a good resource for 316 stainless fasteners: https://www.albanycountyfasteners.com/search.html?&Search=316%20stainless They have other metals too, a bunch of bronze, etc... https://www.albanycountyfasteners.com/search.html Also of note, they have...

    Sanitation plumbing

As an update to this thread, from my end, I have removed all of the old plumbing stuff and am setting about to install the new. I am going to keep it fairly simple, basically just running the 1" hose from the new Raritan Marine Elegance heads up to the front holding tank. So, for each head, it...

    Marina fire

This happened this morning at the marina where we have our boat stored for the winter. https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/Man-hurt-in-blast-that-starts-massive-fire-at-16790812.php The guy that runs the yard there was badly injured and airlifted to the hospital. Great dude, what a...

    Diesel Shutdown

It's winter up here, so I have been doing a bunch of projects and reading up on things, etc... And I got to thinking about the fire suppression system in the boat. I am attaching a pic of the tank, it was last looked at in 2007, so it is out of date. It is much bigger than other ones I have...

    Sanitation plumbing

One of the things that is cool about this forum and similar discussions is the interesting things that people have done that make things better, more serviceable etc. Looking to see if anyone has any ideas here, any interesting mods or methods, etc... So, our boat originally had two salt water...

    Hoses and lines

I’d like to start replacing hose and oil, fuel lines of relatively unknown vintage. Raw water intake hoses are definitely the newest, but the hoses between the pipe sections on the cooling system could stand to be replaced, if only for piece of mind. Any advice? Where to start, common issues...

    1972 43DC Flybridge

Removed our flybridge last winter, don't plan to put it back on. Probably will end up putting in the dumpster, but would love to pass it on to someone. Pick up in Albany, NY. Thanks!

    Hull repair

Now, on to today, I am having the rest of the hull blasted, and it looks like for good reason as so far it seems like I have very little barrier coat left. The blasting didn't remove my barrier coat, and there is not much evidence that there is any on most of the hull anymore and there are some...

    Hull repair

Here is the starboard water line area after it was repaired and barrier coated. This took a long time and I wasn't sure if my repairs would be adequate. Two years later is appears the repairs are fine... Oh, I also did a lot of repair to that rail which has also held up. To be continued...

    Hull repair

I have been working on improving various things on a 1972 43DC that I have had for a couple of years now. One that that bothers me, even though people say it is not of that much consequence, is that there is a 1/4" of bottom paint on the boat. It seems like they just through a couple of gallons...

    43DC Attitude

So, we took the plunge and removed the flybridge from our 1972 43DC, and I don't have any regrets about doing so. The hardtop core will need some further attention and we never ran from up there really anyway, etc... That said, one issue with the 43DC that the removal of the flybridge has...

    CO2 bottle surprise!

Having seen some of the other CO2 bottles, I was surprised to move the fridge this weekend and discover this monster! 4ft tall!

    Loran-C Interference Suppressor

Any benefit to having these on my alternators still? Loran-C and the unit itself are both long gone, of course.

    Air Conditioning

So, question for anyone with a 43DC that has replaced their split cruise air system with individual self contained units... I have found a few posts wherein the salon air handler was replaced with a 16k self contained unit, and that seems straight forward, good access, etc... What I am...

    Battery Switch Box

Do you have a pic of the battery switches? I am changing mine out and the old ones are fine, I just wanted to replace it all. Mine were not in a spot where they got wet, etc. I'll post a pic too if I get to it first. Edit, these are mine:

    Deck drains

Seems like the bigger motor yachts have deck drains either on the after deck or on the gunwales before reaching the aft deck. One of the most annoying features on the 43DC, at least one without wing doors, is that all of the water that comes on to the boat when it rains runs down the gunwales...

    More battery wiring questions...

I am looking to clean up the battery wiring in my boat, essentially I'd just like to redo the 4/0 cabling. Right now the negative connects from port engine, to each battery and back around to the starboard batteries and engine, and the connections are all made with T terminals to the automotive...

    Battery fusing

The dual 8d box installed. Actually, these are test fits, I did paint it before I put them in!
