    Electrical Panel updates

I have been doing a bit of thinking about the electrical panels on my boat, and I have a couple of questions that I wonder if anyone has any opinion on. I currently have 2x 30A 120v connections on the side of the boat, in the wall by the helm on the starboard side, and they come into two...

    Glendinning Synchronizer question

Probably a basic question here, but I don't see it spelled out in the manual: What happens if either the synchronizer fails or the master engine fails, with the slave engine at full throttle? So, say you are cruising along at 1200 rpm with the slave throttle at full and the synchronizer tuns...

    Battery charger update

I have the old Sentry 1240 charger in my boat, and it overcharges my batteries, so, I just run it manually for a few hours every now and again, and I have kept an eye on the voltages and have an idea of when I need to do that, etc... I have a 43DC with 6-71s, and fairly minimal DC needs at this...

    Windlass controls

Windlass controls or Mystery box? I keep meaning to take a better picture of this, and I can tonight, but, does anyone recognize this box? It is in the engine room at the rear bulkhead, and it appears it is connected to the windlass control box. In the manual for the windlass, the original...

    43DC listing

Asking price seems high, but, what I notice is that often times most of these boats are not that well taken care of, as this one looks to be. Just curious anyone's thoughts on that...

    Holding tank pressure relief valve

Revamping my sanitation system, using the fiberglass in keel tanks. Knowing these tanks are sensitive, is a pressure relief valve recommended? Here is an example of what I mean: https://marinesan.com/tanksaver-relief-valve/

    AwlGrip polishing

Something I don’t see discussed here too much, that I recall. AwlGrip wants you to apply and remove their AwlCare product by hand. Are people really hand applying this stuff to 50/60/70 foot boats, or is there sort of a conservative machine application method that makes it a bit easier? Or...

    Custom-ish docklines?

Do these look familiar to anyone? Looking for double braided lines with this color pattern. I asked the owner of the boat but he just said the rope shop in Florida, which, while I looked at a couple of places online, I haven't been able to find this. Kind of a cool color scheme for these boats.

    Morse Control clamps

Finally launched the boat this weekend, being delayed by barrier coating, etc... Checked the shifters and the control seemed weird, turned out the port transmission was stuck in gear. Turned out the be the clamp holding the cable jacket was a little loose, and I snugged it up and it was good...

    Yard issue

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on this situation... I'm still on the hard up north here, had the bottom blasted in the fall and have a bit of work to do before going back in the water in a bit. The guy that runs the yard here was involved in a terrible explosion / fire here in...

    Boat Bathrooms

So, after a bunch of issues with the Vacuflush setups on the boat, I decided to replace the toilets with Raritan Marine Elegance toilets. That is all well and good, should be a big improvement, happy with that so far. However, because of the whole "while you are in there" thing... This is...

    1972 Hatteras 43DC #4?

Interesting find this weekend, thinking perhaps what this means is that this is the 4th 43DC made, or the 4th in 1972? Then someone's initials, and the production number, 131. Hull number ended up being 331. Cool stuff!

    Dynaplates

Keep the dynaplates or ditch them? I have one on each side of the hull, the port side is not connected to anything, the wire broke off at some point. The starboard side is connected to the grounding strap. The blueprint for the boat shows them as "grounding plates". I no longer have a...
