In China, there were no sit-down toilets in the hinterlands, just slit trench type (porcelain slit trench in bathrooms, earth slit trench in rural farms. People had never seen a toilet and didn't know how to use it.
Our salon, stairs and entire boat except the aft deck and aft stateroom were all done in solid oak, stained to match the light and dark colors of the original feather ambrosia.. This is the only pic I have of the stairs. The epoxy finish lasted extremely well through lots of hard use.

My real opinion is that it doesn't matter much. Remember the 3 priorities of boating in order of importance:
1. Float
2. Go
3. Look good
That always tells me what to work on next.

Not a Hatteras, but this guy definitely figured out how to do it with low capital requirements and engine maintenance can be done by dragging it to a service station. Nice sundeck too.
