Both of my A/C's discharge raw water into a seachest before going overboard. I've had problems with growth in the seachest. Very hard to clean out.
My idea is to install a strainer before the A/C pump and add chlorine tablets to prevent growth. Think it'll work? Could the chlorine damage the...
Take a look at the bottom of the sock. Notice the oil collected there? And the crankcase vent right below it?
This is a new sock and the engine hasn't been run since putting it on. Oil must be seeping down from the air inlet, telling me there is much oil mist from the crankcase when running...
One of my vacuum gauges that I've had sitting in a drawer waiting to be installed has leaked. I don't know how the plug got loose. It lost about half of it's liquid. The stuff that came out of there was rather thick, definitely not mineral spirits.
What liquid is normally used in these?
Never, ever use 'em on deck.
I did yesterday. I hosed the deck down afterward and thought I found all the wires that had flung off, I didn't. Today they were easily seen as they were highlighted by the rust stains they created.
BLAH!!!
I thought mold wouldn't grow on nylon....Well, there is this white stringy stuff on my stored ropes and its gotta' go.
So, am i correct that bleach shouldn't be used on nylon? If so, what can I use to kill it?
I’m using distilled water with Pencool 2000 in my 8V71’s. I normally use the Penray Test Strips but my parts supplier mistakenly sent the Fleetguard Test Strips http://www.dieselmanor.com/docs/FG-teststrips.pdf.
Anyone know if the Fleetguard product is capable of correctly testing my coolant?
It looks like there are 2 ways to pull it off the engine, disassemble the pump and adapter from the flywheel housing, or remove the pump from the adapter. It looks like the easiest route is to pull the pump from the adapter.
Which is best?
I think the kids were playing around with the shutdowns. The trip mechanism must have been right on the edge of letting go because the doors didn’t shut until I ran up the engine. Got to about 1000rpm, heard the air door slam shut and the engine died. Now I’m worried about the blower oil...
I’ve got the old style, aluminum covers. 8V71.
I replaced the gasket, made sure the channel that it sits in and the head rail were clean and true. Applied RTV to the head rail and Perfect Seal to the gasket and still had major seepage.
After removing the cover I noticed the gasket appeared...
If they don’t buy, we die.
I am deeply concerned over the Obama administrations reliance on the Chinese and other foreign governments funding our bailouts, federal budget, and stimulus packages through their buying of our treasury notes.
In much the same manner as the Obama administration...
The bulkhead between the ER and amidships (under galley) has limber holes but they are plugged with the same type plug used in the dingy (forget the name).
I discovered A LOT of water under the galley (stbd side) that had no place to go. Pulled the plug and it drained for hours.
I...
I Googled my name and this website came up: Boatinfoworld.com
Search for your boat by name, or you can search using your last name. A little scary for me...

I’m getting ready to replace an eng mount that has sagged (871/M20’s). I know one of you guys have been down this road. I could use some advice.
Surprisingly, the shafts, cutlass bearings and struts all looked great. I was amazed to find the shafts centered in the bearings in spite of the...
I’ve got the insurance survey tomorrow. I’m wondering if there is anything special that I need to deal with besides the seacocks. I’m thinking that I need to close them before being lifted so I don’t loose prime. Is this the correct procedure or will the surveyor want to open and close them...
Having done a forum search for Perfect Seal, I saw references made to truing up the sealing surfaces before putting the parts together. What exactly does that mean and what’s the proper way to do it? What should I be looking for and how should they look before assembly? Do they have to be...
