The things you find on an old boat…
I finally started working on my foredeck where the non skid was in really bad shape with cracks and some small blisters. I ve been using a scraper to remove some of the old paint near frames and blisters. Then I roll some epoxy, fair the bare spots and then...
I Finally bit the bullet and redid the stbd side panel by the wing door on my 1970 53MY. I did the port side a few years after it was damaged during Irma using divinycell foam core and glass. Very light but time consuming as it had to be glassed.
Stbd side was badly rotted as it was build...
Last couple of trips I noticed my 18kw Norpro surging a little on medium load. I replaced both the racor and secondary and it seemed a little better on the last run. Yesterday when I fired it up it started surging even without load and would stumble badly when a chiller started.
Opened the...
Starlink is now licensed in the Bahamas so no more worries about getting geofenced
We just got back from two weeks in the exumas with the 116 and the recently installed HP diah worked flawlessly the whole time weather anchored or underway at 20kts. It s great not to loose connectivity...
Id this part…
It s not a fuse…. It’s from the control box for an Alfa Laval centrifugal fuel polisher and it’s mounted on the same holder as a standard 6 amp fuse. Dimensions are 6x27mm which is different from a fuse. Any idea where I can a couple ?
It s a bit long and promotional but this tour of the Euro Marine - Lazzara yard in Turkey was fascinating showing ever aspect of boat building. Euro Marine bought the defunct Lazzara Yachts a few years ago and moved production from Tampa FL to Turkey.
It’s a shame Hatteras was bought by Bass...
The horizontally challenged person who self ID as a female hasn’t sung yet
Track for Nicole is gradually shifting north, now highest probs are cocoa beach and Patrick AFB. It also gives it more time to intensify over the stream. 1PM has the wind up to 60mph already.
Has anyone from FTL anyone seen this? It s mind boggling that the self described yachting capital would even consider such an ordinance. Banning dock rentals, multiple boats along with CORDED POWER TOOLS!! Anyone ever tried buffing a big boat by hand?
Vote was pushed back to the next meeting...
For sale, 32v Glendining engine synchronizer. Main box only. Was working when removed during repower, box only, no cables. Decided not to reinstall. $150. Miami
I just finished installing a new fire system on my 53. The old CO system was original and beyond servicing.
It’s a little tricky on the split ER MYs as you need 3 bottles and 3 shutdown systems. Unfortunately the Fireboy shutdowns are only set up for single space which means 3 are required...
4 years ago all the weather boards and stanchions on the port side were destroyed during hurricane Irma. I rebuild it with epoxied in Coosa and now I finally got to tearing out the starboard side and converting to solid panels.
Each section is 4’ long and made out of 3/4” Coosa. 4 section...
Fire system. Out with the old…
I finally received the 3 Fireboys I ordered 2 1/2 months ago. Turns out Fireboy doesn’t stock any these days….
Took out the old CO bottle, which was in front of the genny with limited access. I had to use a multi tool to cut the pipes
New Fireboys installed in...

Started on Tuesday.. they already have all the turbos, manifolds and all 16 heads off. Found traces of coolant leakage in four aft cylinders. Still minimal and...
Ultra Switch… inflation is real
Ridiculous. 18 months ago I bought a couple of ultra switches for my bilge pumps… $130. Fast forward to tonight and the same switch was $165!!!
I m done with the pos chicom made rule float switches… replaced one 2 months ago and it already failed. I only...
The things you can get from Sam’s
No this isn’t for my 53... it’s for the “office”. I was told it was left over Hatteras stock and originally used on the few 118s Hatteras built. It should hold the 116 Lazzara I run... its stock 196 pounders are useless. This is 396lbs unpolished SS
Now... I...
Thought I d share this... watermaker are usually thought of as expensive and complex, and they often are. But they don’t have to be
Right before our ongoing Exuma trip with the boat i run, a little voice told me a back up watermaker would be a good idea. The primary is a 2400 GPD older sea...
For the last couple of weeks the main breaker on my electrical panel, started making an occasional buzzing sound especially when a chiller would start. It s a 50 amp triple pole Blue Seas CB which protects the shorepower coming in. It’s right behind the Shorepower inlet by the stairs going down...
The level of complexity of marine electronics is out of control
in the past, FLIR cameras were pretty much stand alone with a wired joystick/control pad and a video output you could send anywhere. Simple. It worked.
Fast forward a few years and raymarine comes in the picture converting the...
