New varnished teak transom going on

The dimensions on my teak is 5/16 and the board width varies because I sourced it for the book- matched grain. Most of the work was in glassing in the old portholes and fitting the planks. I started from the water line and move up the same way I used to build carvel planked hulls... a lot of...

New varnished teak transom going on

I know, I know... glutton for punishment. But every time I see an old Matthews, Trumpy or Chris with a bright transom I sigh and say... "ain't that beautiful." So here goes nuthin! Glassed in the big portlights, refurbishing the shower with a teak box and door as well as a new teak platform...

    Anyone know this 60 MY?

I have a close friend who is looking at her and thought I'd ask around. She looks pretty clean with lots of upgrades. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1988/Hatteras-Classic-Motor-Yacht-2622189/Annapolis/MD/United-States

I've gotten to the galley upgrade on my "list" and am shopping for new countertops. It is a galley-up model so it has a large u shaped counter and had a quote today for just under $5,000. This is for a manufactured stone product and includes the galley counter and two smaller tops for...

Close to making the decision to step up to a bigger boat.

These general question threads are a pain, I know, and usually have a tendency to veer off in unforeseen directions but here goes... I am in contract on a trade up to a larger boat, going from 58 to something newer, aluminum and over 80 feet. My question is... what am I NOT seeing cost-wise...

Water absorbent sock for inside fuel tank?

Any one of you heavy machinery guys ever use one of these? http://www.newpig.com/pig/US/absorbents-503/pig-universal-absorbent-socks-899/pig-water-hog-935/0/20?cm_cat=lp_topland_socks Would be easy to cut an access hole in the tank top and install these. I know folks will say... if you burn...

Looking at a new boat with cat d343's

I am an old 2 stroke DD guy and know little to nothing about the different model cats. I know many of you guys have heavy equipment experience with big cat diesels. These are d-343's rated at 460 hp with high hours. Interested in general opinions on them, durability, ease of maintenance...

Terrific Experience with Raritan Engineering Support

Just to balance out any griping I may have done on other vendors :) I somehow dropped a 1/2 inch panhead screw down a relatively new (Less than 2 years) Raritan Atlantes 32 volt head without seeing or hearing it go in and it locked up the macerating impellers. I reversed polarity at the...

    1971 53 with a pair of deere 6.8's

The most recent John Deere "Power Source" brochure has an interesting, if short on detail, article about Tidewater doing a refit of an old 53. The yard owner apparently ended up keeping her after a customer chose not to repair a blown DD and he finished the work on spec. Would be great to get...

    kinda cute

Gorgeous I love the traditional side window shape. Many similarities to the GT and they did at least one IPS boat. Interior layouts similar but the arrangement plan I really like in this class is the Hatt 68 Convertible.

Engine pre-lube system... Winter useless project?

You know it must be winter if I am dreaming up new and unnecessary projects :) Back in the day when I was running offshore tow & salvage all the vessels I was on had pre-lube systems for mains and gens. Johnson and Towers sells a pre-lube starter kit that circulates the oil in to the top end...

    Pure Ayre

Just wondering if anyone has used this product: http://www.pureayre.com/products-marine.htm Like all magic potions, they promise the moon and the stars, I try and limit myself to one impulse buy a month :) and this is my Dec one. I plan on fogging below decks tomorrow morning, well see.

    Odd fresh water leak

For the past two weeks my Mach 5 fresh water pressure pump has been cycling and at first I thought I was just having trouble bleeding the air out (great pumps but prone to this problem.) Watching a pressure gauge it became clear that there was a leak so next came the task of tracking it down...
