We have had a discussion or two here and perhaps elsewhere about Racors and the use of 2 micron filters. Ever since we bought Freedom back in 1999 I have used 2 micron filters. Once after shocking the tank with BioBor prior to lay up, in the Spring, we floated her and wound 'em up. She made 1000...
It's in the shop now and I just got back after a talk with the man about how we are going forward. Fortunately we both saw things the same way. Dice up the would with a saw and air chisel it out. Then replace it with epoxy coated plywood. Next paint the underside, flip it over.
Then clean up...
Well it is off. And it took a good chunk of the fiberglass off of the bow. Oh well. The wood under the pulpit was soaked, and while parts right under the windlass were not that bad, all in all, we'll get the teak off and the anti skid done.
I almost wish I left it alone and slapped the...
Hey SG is the fan part of the vacuum bagging rig to squish it all back together :p
Looks like you had a great time also.
Vincent yes, it is too late. However I did shave them off when the rotten core came out. I have raised the aft end over a quarter inch already but tomorrow we go for...
This could be your first twofer all by itself if you hit a jetski wake.
A 21 Bayliner to the Bahamas? Geeze we've seen all sorts over there. Here is one of my personal favs. Spied this one at Green Turtle, and get this, on the hard in one piece on Great Exuma! Talk about a set.
Ok it isn't different. Vincent I have read your thread probably a couple of times. Guys I think our pulpits are very similar. I know for a fact that the plywood we all think exists under our pulpit was screwed into the deck. When I shaved off the core from the bottom up, I found about 8 screws...
Has anyone pulled the pulpit off and how did it go? The rub rail was easy enough but the anchor roller is stuck down to the pulpit really well.
It appears the bow rail is one piece and easily detached from the pulpit but I am not sure I want to leave it hanging so it may come off completely...
Actually I am thinking of pulling the wood, sanding it down and repainting the whole pulpit. Once the new paint is down I was planning on anti-skid in the recess.
So I have this other thread going with the core replacement. I was wondering if folks had their pulpits removed and then, what they used to replace the plywood under the pulpit between the deck and pulpit.
Has anyone used foam? Coosa? Or is this one of those lay down the plywood soaked in epoxy...
Alright! Today we put up the last two overlapping layers. That means we have all of the coosa and glass we intended to install. Tomorrow I will drill some holes and take a measurement or two. This way I can judge how ready the area is to accept the windlass.
Any recommendations on windlass...
Jay, consider this carefully.
Make sure you reinforce the transom properly and well. Ours was reinforced but the current dink will dimple the transom during the lift.
So would the prior dink which weighed much less.
The hinge point must spread the weight out and reinforcement is a must...
The PVC shower pan liner is working out real well. We lay down wax paper, then the piece of glass and slather on the epoxy. I roll it up on a PVC tube and unroll it onto the locker ceiling which has been previously brushed liberally with epoxy.
So far so good, we are almost halfway aft now and...
So here it is, maybe a month of 3 hour days of work and I have two layers of 3/8 coosa installed into the deck from below. All in all not bad. PITA but manageable given I have a platform to lay on while I work overhead.
I am going to install one additional layer 4 feet wide centered since it...
Last year we towed our dink from Ft Myers to Emerald Bay via the Abacos and back to Ft Myers via Bimini. 1400 NM. I'd say ok but with the larger one extra crew should be available.
The only issues are;
1) The dink rams your platform even if you slow down well in advance a little at a...
So with a good chunk of the balsa removed I went after the gap in the lip I left around the perimeter. I thought I had it figured out. I'd use thickened epoxy and the west system fillable tubes and a caulk gun. Right?
Wrong. First of all, a zip lock bag is not what you want to fill a tube with...
Walt as you may recall, I'm not exactly tiny. I remember last time we saw each other was up at the Rondout Yacht Basin. Right now, 6'4" at 230. While 61 is young these days, I'm feeling it. I lay on my back and I get in to the point mid-thigh is laying on the door edge. It'll get ugly when I...
So today I cleaned up the work site and opened up the repair area a bit more. That darn multi tool is a great thing. I am able to punch through the lower laminate and move side to side making a cut in the glass so as to dice up the area to be removed. Of course some of the balsa is good and dry...
Comments criticism etc. is welcome. Lock and load!
Being relatively close to installing the first chunk of coosa I figured today would be a good day to cobble up a frame to support all of this.
Previously I secured 4 screw jacks from Wallly World (Camco jacks). They are aluminum and...
