    Long cruise check list

Has anyone made a long term cruise checklist they would be willing to share? I'm looking for assistance in not omitting things that should be checked, stocked up on, etc. for a extended Bahamas trip. Given the dearth of live aboard dockage where we are, we have decided to spend the winter over...

    Bilge switches

I'm getting tired of replacing Rule float switches. Suggestions or experiences with other types, i.e. water witch, Aqualarm, whale, etc.?

    Shout out to the mod

Noticed some posts where deleted from one of the threads and wanted to commend the mod that did it. I take my share of responsibility for letting it go astray and am glad this was done to keep the forum dedicated to Hatteras Yachts. I truly hope we can keep the focus there. My sincere thanks...

replacing wood in pilot house door

The wood inset (painted plywood) in the lower half of my port pilot house door is getting soft and spongy. No visible leaks or water but it is there somewhere. Any secret to removal and replacement? I'd ask Bruce M but he is cruising the Bering sea on a 147 foot Cheoy Lee- Japan to the...

    Cruisair low pressure light

My salon 24k unit with SMX controls is giving me a low pressure fault code. I have read the manual and am still baffled. Can anyone explain what this means and what should be done to fix it? A bit hot and muggy in Hobe Sound and I am anxious to get it fixed. Any recommendations for a...

    Davit problem

I have a Marquipt Tender-Lift 800# davit (actually a 1000# but does not have a stand pipe). The hydraulics run but the cable will not unwind. I probably pulled it in too tight... Any suggestions on how to free it? Also any regular maintenance I should be doing?

    Deck courtesy lights

I'm replacing the four 2.5" round courtesy lights. 2 are above the shore hook up panels and two are on the gunnels by the boarding ladder. Is it better to seal them with silicon rubber or 4200? The old ones completely corroded out in the sockets hence the replacement. BTW these are pricey...

    main bearings for turbos

Had a mechanic on board a couple days ago for the leaking issue on my turbos. He said there is too much play in the bearings (may or may not have had anything to do with the leaks). I can feel them move a bit but how much is too much? Can anyone tell me what is should run for replacement? I...

    oil leak at turbops

I am having some oil or sooty oil leaks on the port inboard and starboard outboard turbos. 8V92TAs. The residue feels dry hence my sooty comment. It is not coming from the lines that feed the bearing but at the flanges that mount the turbos to the exhaust manifolds. We stopped in Brunswick...

    Any comments about these insurers

I have quotes form Sunderland and Falvey. The Falvey quote is very, very reasonable (you can infer it is cheap!). They have a decent AM Best rating but that is only part of any consideration to using them. Any out there who have had their coverage in the past? Any claims experience...

    any rib repair experts?

I'm trying to fix my Apex rib. Had some bare spots with leaks. I used West Marine's liquid rubber and coated the entire boat. Some small leaks remained, especially where I put the first application (I think too thick and not sanded/cleaned well enough). Bought a square foot of hyphalon...

    Chesapeake fuel prices???

Had a few days delay to have a generator fuel pump sent into Oriental after a month on the hard in Beaufort. Plan to fill in Coinjock on the way north but wondering where the cheapest fuel is in the Chesapeake. We are planning on spending July, Aug, sept and part of Oct up there then heading...

    Met a great guy today

We have been in Beaufort NC this week and probably most if not all of next week on the hard at Bock Marine. Great folks here and I would recommend this yard, albeit without a lot of experience with other yards to base it on. Bruce Morrison is hard at work fixing a laundry list of items...

    Wanted: SMX control panel

I'm looking for a wall panel for the original SMX system. Need one but would be happy to buy a second unit for a spare.

    TV/Sat systems

Trying to learn what works and what would be foolishly spend dollars. I hope to get an HD system and am aware of KVH, Intellian, Ray and King. Just found a website for Track it TV/Follow me. This one sounds to cheap to be worth looking at seriously. Is there any place to buy used equipment...

    foam underlay on stateroom walls

We stripped the wallpaper (it is a paper not vinyl) of our midship cabin and there is a very thin (1/16 to 1/8) foam product glued to the substrate. Has anyone run into this before? I'm thinking it might be a vapor barrier??? One of the walls is common with the full beam engine room leading...

    Under counter freezer

Looking for a replacement for our sub zero unit that seems to want to die. Probably not worth paying to have freon put in and it only cools to about 28. Anyone have a unit they are getting rid of?

    Personal security on board

I don't want to open a discussion on 2nd amendment issues but will say my SO is not comfortable having fire arms on board. What alternatives, i.e. Taser, mace, tactical batons, etc. does anyone have experience with? I'm also curious what alarm systems folks have on board. We hope to make...

    Wide array or dome

Among other items, radar replacement is on my list. Very curious of opinions if the additional cost for a wide array is worth it. I'm looking at Garmin GMR 24HD versus GMR 404. I'm not committed to Garmin yet but really like their chart plotters (leaning toward a 4012 or 4212) with NMEA 2000...
