Look who I saw tonight… Mighty fine looking boat, I do believe this is Captain Ralph.

    Problem with the Throttles

I recently had my engines rebuilt, and ever since then my throttles don't stay where you put them. You push them forward and then as soon as you take your hand off of them they fall back on their own. It's very annoying. I called the mechanic who did the rebuilds, who blamed this on that I need...

    Hallway Refresh

What do you guys think? The original wallpaper was kind of crusty and had gotten damaged during some engine work. I got grass paper like the original, but I always hated the white color so I went with a light brown. Sorry in advance for the sideways photos, this website's hosting engine always...

    My Engine Saga

Conclusion to the saga - the boat runs well again after inframe rebuilds and new stuffing boxes, straightened shafts, 6 new cutlass bearings, exhaust blankets, basically on the driveline you name it and it was done. Some of this stuff was past due anyway like the cutlass bearings which were...

Looking for bench seat center insert

Hi all, I am looking for the wood insert pieces and cushions for the center cut through in the aft bench seat that’s removable to access the swim platform ladder. It’s missing on my boat and I’d really like to have it. If anyone doesn’t use theirs I would like to buy it. Attached is a picture of...

I've never had a bad cutlass bearing...

I drove over there and it's pretty difficult to see in the hole with the forward shaft still there, but I managed to position my phone camera to where it looked in there, far as I can tell there is no bearing. They already had the stub shafts pulled and the bearings removed from the struts on...

    1971 47’ Chris Craft Commander

1971 47’ Chris Craft Commander SeaEric suggested I post this here since there seems to be a lot of crossover between Hatt’s and classic Chris-Crafts. This is my old boat that I restored before I bought the Hatteras, and is now for sale because I need two 50’ boats like I need a hole in my head...

    Locking fuel cap

I think the best solution to securing your boat is a wireless camera system. The tech has gotten so good and so cheap that it's almost silly not to have one. I have a blink system on my boat. Nice quality video, and it's motion-activated so the camera batteries last forever. It notifies me on my...

    My Engine Saga

Tale of "watch who you let in your engine room". I wrote a little about this in another thread. It's basically impossible to get the marina to do engine service work these days. There is a labor shortage and as soon as they train somebody and send them to school to be a certified tech with cat...

    Jet Ski instead of Dinghy?

I listened to all of you guys and decided not to try and use a jet ski as a tender. It would have been fun, but I imagine trying to use it to haul the dogs to shore or bring groceries back would be a big problem. It was a fun thought but wasn't going to be practical. I got an 11' Whaler instead...

    Batteries

I did do a search (I promise) and all of the threads seem to be people using AGM's, golf cart batteries, etc. Let's say I just wanted to replace them with what's supposed to be there. Is the correct battery the Rolls 8HHG25P?

    Hatteras 53MY Draft

It's pretty substantial. He's 5'11" and the propellers hang down another foot or so beyond that point. I have a later boat than that, 1980's 53 MY, I know it carries more fuel. The specs say 3.5 feet or something and I can affirmatively say that's a lie. It's closer to 5.

    Jet Ski instead of Dinghy?

This is the davit and the placard that's inside next to the winch motors. Pretty sure it's the same one that's on all the 1980's hatt's, at least the ones I've seen.

    Jet Ski instead of Dinghy?

I'm seriously considering putting a seadoo or something similar up where the dinghy normally goes. My boat has the factory electric davit. I've been shopping around for dinghies but it dawned on me that I can always just tow my whaler when I go to the islands, and that for anything other than...

What engine oils are people using.

I’d be careful with that one, you really want sulfated ash content under 1 to avoid premature liner wear. Rotella is barely in spec right at 1, and unless I have found the wrong product it looks like this is over by 40%. https://www.mobil.com/en-bg/marine/pds/gl-xx-mobilgard-adl-series...
