    Shaft brake

Recently stuff has been rattling around my brain...... nothing new........... about the difficulties of fitting shaft brakes on existing installations. My thinking on this has been prompted by my (very early) planning of our 2 year adventure cruising around the magnificent waterways of the US...

    Electric Re-Power

Well here's a conversation starter. Has anybody here considered or calculated (or actually done it) Re-Powering a big Hatt with Electric motors and a generator to keep the batteries charged? For instance a 53 MY for cruising at hull speed? I'm thinking it would be less expensive than a dual...

My darling wife surprised the....... bags..... out of me a few days ago! I was rabbiting on about boating stuff - as per normal - and she asks............. "Do you think we could live on a boat for two years exploring the U.S. when we retire?" First, I calmly looked around for the candid...

    Elephants (Old Hatts) Graveyard

I've noticed that most of the knowledgeable HOF members tend to dismiss the idea of buying a "cheap" Hatt - let's say a 53 MY or YF for instance - as a waste of time because of the cost of poor maintenance. Based on that, and noticing a tired looking 1978 53YF on www.yachtauctions.com, I was...

    No water, no problem!

Wow! I wasn't expecting such a response to the images. Thank you so much. Vincent, I had a fenders over the side that were about twice the width of the timber on the edge of the dock. No water, no problem!

WHAT A HOOT!!!!! Jet drives are incredibly versatile. I love 'em. Fantastic at all speeds, economical and infinitely controllable. However, I don't think I'll use my Jet boat quite like that.......... I have too many hours of love, blood, sweat and effort in building her to play like that...

    San Diego to Hawaii

Who said it can't be done......... Australia to Panama in a 58ft Hatt. This is from the Turtle-Pac website. These guys make collapsible fuel bladders that are designed to take ocean beatings and not create free surface effect stability issues. Issues of added load on the deck of course is...
