    Survey

Well tomorrow is the mechanical survey on Finalee. The buyer is a great guy. Hopefully this goes well. You just never know. Funny I have owned at 30 boats in my lifetime. This is the only one I will be sad to see go. So the old saying is not always true.

    Pictures tell all on engines

Took these on an unamed vessel . The rest of the boat was equally as bad. It is very difficult finding a decent boat for under $40,000 . I am looking at vessels that have some sea kindlines and good reputations without going over 28 ft. Slim pickings in these parts.

    Rail refinish

20 hours later the rails have 3 coats of Epifanes Wood finish gloss on them. 3 more coats should do it. I put the first 3 on in a 2hour time span.

    Rail refinish

I know it has been discussed in the past. However with the constant improvements in chemistry I am wondering what is the latest word on Epifanes. I see three types available. Leaning towards Wood Finish Clear, But Rapid Clear sounds very similar. The rails are down to bare wood and ready...

    Recent boat purchases

To all who have recently purchased Older Hatts where did you do your searching? Did anyone make a deal on a boat they saw on this forum ? Just wondering. I have a great 43 DC for sale and will let go at a great price.

Mad and just don't want to take it anymore

I am a calm individual. However! My wife and I own and operate a small business. Never had any medical problems. Our Insurance premium tripled since OC. This is just too much.. Anyone else experiencing this sort of jump? And to top it off I was turned down for a CT scan to check a pain. The...

    Naiad and handling

Over the course of the last 2 years and 600 miles of cruising the boat had been handling weird. It happened gradually so it was not easy to identify. She was squirrely in beam seas and seemed to wander on plane. This weather the stabilizers where on or off. This has all gone away since...

    Prop tuning

After 8 years I had the props tuned. The difference is amazing. Turns out one of the 22x26 props actually had a blade longer than the rest. The boat planes at 1750 RPM versus 1900 before. This with half a load. Speed 16 knots. Top end 24 knots at 2350 RPM. Currents and wind was minimal. The...

    Naiad bearing and seal replacement

The project is finished. Here is the lube recommended by NAIAD along with some final shots. Notice the hull is still shining. I am a firm believer now in changing these seals every 3 years. One interesting observation is that the bottom bearings and races on both sides could have been reused ...

    Naiad bearing and seal replacement

Chilling the sleeve and heating the bearing to 200 degress helped get it over the first seat. It was nessesary to drive onto the bottom seat with a punch. No big deal really. This side will end up taking 10 man hours to finish. Now that I have the routine down the other side will be 2 hours.

    Naiad bearing and seal replacement

I have found bearings and races for $65 ea on line. Turns out these are used on Jeep products.

    Naiad bearing and seal replacement

I am in the second phase of repair. Sky covered seals so I'll only add that a good stout 3/4 ratchet and a 4 ft. pipe are what got the fins off. I tried a breaker, bar but the flex caused loss of leverage. Even with two people no luck. Once a solid set of levers are in place it only took...

    NAIAD bearings

Getting ready to remove the fins and replace seals and inspect the bearings. Water has been getting past the seals on the port side for 30 days. My question is how much effort should be required to rotate the fins in place ,to check the feel of the bearings? Presently They do not move with the...

    Electric panel

Anyone have the wiring diagram for these panels ? The boat is a 1971 43dc that was Redone by Hurley in the 90's. The diagrams Sam's sold do not apply anymore. The problem is the indicator lights do not come on with Shore Power. The pedestal plug was bad, boat and dock, and have been...

    Battery Charger Indicator Light Question

Mine has orange lights for the power source selector and green lights below for the different circuits. None of the lights stay on continuously. They change based on the load. Same result in the other panel, not shown. When my battery charger quit that light no longer came on. Now that it...

    43 DC in beam sea

Wondering if anyone else experiences a squirrely helm in a beam sea. My boat is great in all but a beam sea. This has always been the case. Yesterday in 20 knots of wind, which she handles fine, and an incoming tide as I headed down the James the river the boat acted like it had a mind of its...

We are hoping to meet up with fellow Hatt owners this year while cruising in the Bay. Has there been any planning for a trip this year?
