Note to southbound boaters.... unless something has changed since 0700 today, Nov. 7th, the locks at Great Bridge (Chesapeake), VA are closed for repair of a valve. Divers were sent down two days ago to inspect the valve but no fix yet. The Dismal Swamp "ditch" locks are still open but a long...
Hello Texas HOF members, we're starting a search for a permanent home (marina) in Texas somewhere between Port Arthur and Corpus and would appreciate some input. We've checked out a couple of marinas in the Kemah area but want to expand the search. We're currently liveaboards and hope to keep...
Pat, I purchased this as a spare for a GM freshwater pump. I assume it's the same as the pump end of a waste macerator but don't know that for sure. Here's a picture.
While crossing the Chesapeake Bay last Sunday morning, we rec'd a call from a 45 ft Carver that was taking on water near the York River entrance. The boat was about 1.5 miles behind us so we immediately responded. We were able to remove two passengers, but the Captain and another passenger...
A local non-profit has asked us to sponsor a brunch cruise and I'm not sure where to set the limit on the number of passengers for this trip. We have a 58YF. Any thoughts or advice?
Until 0530 this morning, our boat was berthed in the slip between the piling in the middle of this picture and the stairs in the foreground. The 80 yr old junker next to us sank during the night. A dock line to the cleat next to the gray piling was the only thing keeping this boat from rolling...
The shut down solenoid on one of my 8v71t engines has died. It's a 32v solenoid but I cannot find any numbers on the device. If any of you have this particular engine and solenoid and can see a part number, please advise. Thanks.
We just completed a galley project that has been ongoing for 7 months. We removed the dinette which we rarely used and replaced it with more cabinetry and a breakfast bar.
We are having some issues with our Outback inverter/charger and I hope that the few HOF members that have this inverter can help. We noticed last summer, after replacing our house bank, that we could only get about 4 hrs off the inverter before running the batteries down to <50% charge. I had...
I apologize for the long post but I'm in need of some troubleshooting advice on a fuel system problem with one of my 8v71s.
I assume the fuel flow is typical for our old Hatts with 8v71s: tank to Racor filter to fuel pump to secondary filter (on engine) to heads. I just dismantled and...
We have an A.O. Smith 20 gal water heater, 220V, that is approximately 10 years old. It's starting to show some significant rusting at the bottom seam and we're considering installing a new unit this winter. This brand has obviously held up well but they are expensive and I would like to hear...
I have removed a Raz Marine rebuilt MR-10 water pump (32 VDC) that I installed as a backup freshwater pump on my boat. It is mounted on a GM accumulator tank. We never had to use this pump and it had not been run since installation until I did a test pump last week. I'm putting in another...
Thanks for the compliments. Here is a close up of the base cabinet. We were able to use the old dinette table for this cabinet top.
for this cabinet top.
We're in the process of eliminating the dinette in our galley and replacing the bench seats and tabletop with cabinets on the forward side and a small bar top on the aft side. Here are the pictures of the forward additions (still have some trim work and wood refinishing).
