I've seen a lot of posts where people aer having problems with the old Bussman fuses at the shore power inlets on our older Hatts. I too have had problems. I'd really like to get rid of them in favor of proper circuit breakers. I emailed Sams, hoping they had a drop in solution...nope...they...
As y'all know...I'm a newbie Hat 53 owner. I've never owned a twin-screw boat before this one but feel pretty good in handling her. If I can dock/maneuver a 67,000 single screw with no bow thruster trawler (which is what I used to have)...basic manuevering of a twin screw seems pretty easy...
Clearly the reverse-cycle sytem on my 53MY is inaddequate and I need to add suplimental heat. It's freezing up and I'm hving to run muiltiple space heaters just to stay warm enough. I've never needed anything supplimental on my other boats and don't know where to start.
So...anyone have any...
I came back from dinner last night to discover we had lost all power on the boat. Of course it's the coldest days of the year and not going to get above freezing until Sunday...so power/heat is a MUST. We were using quite a bit of power. engine block heaters, erverse cycle heat systems, plus...
Well, went down to the boat to take her around to the fule dock...discovered that the starboard engine block heater is not working. It WAS working a week or two ago. We choose to leave the engine block heaters on at 50* rather than windterize the engines because we wanted to use her on nice days...
Anyone know how our old DDs re goign to react to the new Ultra Low sulfer Diesel (ULSD)? I know the sulfer provided some lubrication properties...so...will the lack of sulfer cause any problems in the long run or even the short run?
If I have half a tank of the old diesel, should I mix in the...
I want to get fenders that I will permanetly attach to the finer pier at our new slip when we move her there in the next few weeks. We are wintering in a slip where the guy who keeps his boat there normally has permantely mounted fenders and I have become very fond of them. No more having to...
One of the tings the Admiral and I will miss most when we move out of the house and onto the boat full time in the sping is our hot tub. So...that got me thinking...what about putting one on Saraswati? I'm thinking one of those small 1-2 person round soft-side ones like this:
But...the...
Got myself a zinc Grouper...but where's a good atachment point on a 53my that is clsoe enough to the water so that the cable will actually be long enough to get it in the water? I know it should be atached to something connected to the bonding system...but for the life of me, I can't think of...
The original one is non-functional. In the spring I will see about getting the original to work...but even if I do, I want something more modern and will keep the OEM one as a backup. Please keep in mind that I will definitely be looking for a professional install and budget isn't HUGE. A few...
What is mean is...are the various models erlated...as in...
53MY with a cockpit would = 58YF? or
53MY with cockit = 61CPMY?
53MY and 53 sportfish use same hull?
or???
Just my curiosity getting the beter of me...
At survey, she topped out at 17.9 knots on the gps. Took quite a while to get there and had to put the tabs all the way down...but she finally produced what looks to me like a nicely planed off wake:
Does that look about right to everyone? Speed seem okay for having a freshly powerwashed...
I'm new to "painted" boats...all of my previous boats were Gelcoated. I was planning on using the same thing I used on those...good oldfashioned car "wash & wax" stuff. Like TurtleWax's "ZipWax":
Then plan on "waxing" it 1-2x per year with a good hydrophobic polymer type wax such as Meguire's...
I've had lots of boats, but none as big and complicated as this one. And down in Norfolk, were I spent most of my adult boating life, most didn't winterize their boats if they were kept in the water. Anyone have a good checklist for winterizing a 53MY? What really needs to be done and what...
I know that many of the car nav units can accept other maps on a memory card. But, are there any units that you can use for both street maps and nautical charts? Like any of the Garmin units maybe?
Time has come for a redo of the audio system on Saraswati….but before I can properly determine what equipment I want, I need to better understand what I’ve working with. Can anyone tell me about the original music/stereo system on a 53MY from circa 1980? There seems to be a set of speakers in...
Well, this blows. We were getting LP on once of our 4 Marine Air (yes, Marine Air, not CruiseAir) units so we had them looked at. They found it to be lwo on freon, not a big deal. But while there we ahd them service all the units only to discover a BIG but unknown problem with the salon unit...
Hello all,
The wife is down on Saraswati redoing a all of the fabric soft goods. Well, its now cold enough to need heat...she flips on the heat in the salon and master stateroom...and now it shows "LP" on the display. Anyone know what that means or how to correct it? Sigh...
I'm trying to learn my way around her. I am scared to death of these heads...far more complicated than the newer ones on my previous baot (where the pumps were attached to the head, very easy to work on).
I seem to have isseus where the heads "fill" fine but wont discharge/pump out. The...
