    popping sound

There's a popping noise when one walks around our back deck. Kinda like a noisy floor board on wood floors at home. I always just thought is was kinda charming but someone who was on the boat today wondered if I should be concerned about that - like maybe some delamination of the core is...

    Got AC but no heat

Curious about the Cruisair unit in the galley/forward stateroom. The AC works just fine but the heat doesn't work. Fan operates no problem, it's just the condensing unit in the star engine room never kicks on. Is there a quick punchlist of things to check to look into this? Is this another one...

    This doesn't belong here

This one doesn't belong in the geek section but I was so fired up about this picture and thought it was a real 'techical' achievement so what the hell. My daughters and I got this snap with me piloting and them on one of the bridges downtown, Cincinnati. This one's a beauty!

Reading Greek - Perko dome lights

How does one decyypher the bulb-max number indicated on my new Perko dome lights? Inside the light it says BULB-MAX 21 C/P. Then I look at the 32V bulbs I have on hand and see nothing! (no markings whatsoever) What's the trick?

    Galley Maid Head LOUD

Aft GM head on 53my sounds like it's going to come through the friggin bulkhead! It's been like this for quite some time and functions fine. Only thing of note other than the noise is that water in the bowl is slow to start circulating after a normal cruise. The other 2 heads are fine and make...

    Perko Dome Light (exterior)

Need replacement Perko dome light fixtures. Looks like 32V is a rare breed. 12V seems readily available. Is there a work-around here? Can 12V be used instead? OR does anyone have a source on 32V's. Thanks much

    Towel bar brackets

Any ideas on reconditioning the pitted chrome towel bar brackets, about 9 of em all told (9 pairs), without breaking the bank. Sams was good enough to have some fabricated in China, but they are stainless and at $81 per pair it'd cost a whopping $730 for towel bar brackets !!! Can the existing...

    Need a little afromosia

Looking for about a 4 x 4 ft piece of 1/2" afromosia plywood for a small fixer upper project. Thought I'd post on the off chance anybody might have some extra laying around. Hoping not to have to pony up for a whole 4 x 8 sheet (about $200 at World Panel Products) Thanks all!

    How to stick dat

The exhaust fan for the genny on the star side has popped off the side of the hull. Looks like the glue gave way. Any opinions as to what adhesive would keep it back on there (see pic). It appears that no physical fasteners were used originally. I'm thinking that 5200 might do the trick but it...

Aft Deck Fridge & Cabinet (Ang, help !!!)

Hey guys My dad talked me into pulling out the old fridge on the back deck (It's been on the list but not THAT high up, lol). Well, it's out now and the cabinet wants to be repaired. That trim around the fridge was glued on with something good cause the wood pretty much came apart on removal...

Finishing Aframosia - the finer points

My big project over the winter was 'stripping' the aframosia wood throughout with laquer thinner - worked quite well (contributed brain cells to the cause I'm sure). Ued a nice teak oil to refinish. Applied quite generously let stand 30 minutes then 'buffed' with a terry towel. The immediate...

    Water Heater Slow to Cook

Water heater seems to be heating water VERY slowly - It does give us a full water heater tank of very hot water after several days away, but after 24 hours the temp is just luke warm. Other than power to the unit (yes, it's good), what are some things I might check to see if we can get er kick...

Had the port engine seacock replaced. Hauled her out, nice coat of paint on the bottom, new valve and back into the drink we go ... The original leak is fixed (had the frozen/busted valve replaced) but now the port rudder post and port prop shaft are both leaking pretty well. Bilge pump is...
