    Trip South Details

I just finished my trip South from Long Island to Jupiter, Florida. As I did when I went North last year, I thought I would post some figures in case it might help someone else along the way. Here goes: Total Nautical Miles 1,123 Total Gallons Burned...

    Head Question

The Admiral wants to know if she can use some of those blue hanging things you attach to the inside of a house toilet to keep the bowl clean. Can this be done on GM heads, both salt and fresh? I have no idea if this will damage the stators or if there is something else to use. Thanks.

    Oregon Inlet

Getting ready to head South from New York. Has anyone been through Oregon Inlet since it has been dredged? Every time one of the Captains on the Wicked Tuna show hits the bridge or runs aground near the bridge makes me even less inclined to go that route.

    12 Point Monitor

This may be heresy but why do we not have available here either a picture of the inside of the 12 point monitor or some sort of schematic or other blueprint identifying which relay is for which circuit. While Roger is and always has been a tremendous source of helpful information, there should...

    DDEC and Battery Equalizer

I finally had a chance to look at all of the blue prints for the boat. If I am reading them correctly, the only thing between a properly running DDEC engine and my batteries is this Vanner battery equalizer which reduces the 24 volts put out by my batteries to the 12 volts needed by the DDEC...

Any Experience with 84 Boatworks in Ft. Lauderdale

I am going to be taking my dink to these folks www.84boatworks.com to try to find the air leak in the bow tube. From my research, it's either going to be a $500 bill or a recommendation that I need an entirely new tube set costing between $8,000-$9,000. Under the circumstances, I thought I would...

    What Does It Do?

Not only do I like to have everything working on the boat, I also like to know what everything does. In the course of having the batteries replaced on my 74, my mechanic told me that I have some sort of battery conditioner on each bank. Other than just a internet explanation in the blind, can my...

    Exhaust Temp Alarm

In the test mode, the light does not come on on one of my exhaust temp alarms. How do I test these alarms. I guess I just cut the two wires going to the exhaust temp alarm and jump them together? That will tell me which of the two exhaust temp alarms on one engine is not working? Hard to believe...

    24v stabilizer cooling Pump

Sorry to sound like Rosanne Rosanadana but I have another pump issue. First, for those with stabilizers and with a small pump that cools the stabilizers with sea water, what excites that little pump? Also, does that raw water get discharged through the exhaust or out the side of the boat? I can...

    Steering cooling pump

Any idea what excites the steering cooling pump on my '74? It circulates raw water to cool the steering system. Pump is presently down but I think it is good. Could be the fuel pressure switch but I am not sure since the pump is 24v and the fuel pressure switch is lower voltage.

    Cruiseair Thermistor

The AC in the VIP stateroom works fine but the thermistor is not working properly. It thinks it is down to 64 degrees when the temp is really 68 degrees etc. Therefore, it shuts down the compressor prematurely. When I had the AC fellow on the boat to check it out, he said it was likely the...

    Strainers or Exterior Screens

I plan on getting hauled down South. I am making my checklist of what to get done. Up a north, we have a South Bay strainers which are exterior wedges with slats. Many boats therefore have no internal strainers. I needed to clean the strainers for my AC pumps this week after about a month of use...

    Battery Change Out

I am considering a battery change out on my '74. It is a 24V system. I want to stick with 8D batteries. I do not want Rolls. Had some bad luck with them. What is a good, non AGM choice for the starboard bank which starts the starboard engine. For the port side, which is also the house bank, do I...

    Garmin Route Planning

I have two Garmin 4200 chart plotters on my 74. Neither is used to navigate with and neither is interfaced with my pilot. I use them merely as backups. However, I would like to enter my routes into them before heading south. What do I need to be able to plan the routes from the comfort of my...

    Windshield Washer Drool

The center windshield washer on my 74 has a very slow dribble when not in use. I imagine it is the valve not closing properly as activated by the push up knob. Does this sound right and if so, is this valve located within the drop down overhead panel or under the bridge brow. Either way, I guess...

    False Bilge Alarm

On my recent trip I ran into an occasional high bilge alarm. Fortunately, it was a false alarm. It seem to happen when I used my trim tab buttons. Is it possible to get a false alarm due to low voltage? It's the only thing I can think of but not sure. Of course, I could not tell which high bilge...

    Wiper blades

It's time to replace the rubber portion of my wiper blades in my 74. I assume I can just refill the blades, I hope, rather than replacing the whole blade assembly? Is this true and who would know where best to get the refills? I know SAMS has the whole assembly which I do not need. Thanks.

    Crusair AC problem

Just started a summer cruise and have a problem with one of my AC units. The SMX display, which is the updated version, indicates that the AC thinks it is 0 degrees in the galley. Because of that, the unit will not go into the cool mode. I have tried a master reset, and to adjust up through...

    Courtesy Light Festoon Bulb Size

Away from the boat and would like to order some 24v blue festoon bulbs to put in the 3 courtesy lights per side that I have on my 74. These are the little lights that are along the walkways just outside the Pilothouse doors. Does anyone know what size festoon bulbs these take? Thanks.

    Wifi Revisited

This is not my thing. However, I do my best. Ever since a particular boat has taken the slip next to mine, I am having trouble with reduced range on my Cradlepoint MBR 1200B router. This is not an Internet issue nor is it a cell phone (air card ) issue. I simply can no longer see my router from...
