    Repair door hardware lockset

I have a 1979 Hatteras 43DC. Yesterday my boat was broken into and the aft deck enclosure comprimised. The thieves tried to get into the cabin but the heavy duty Hatteras door hardware kept them out ... but not before damage was done to the hardware set. This hardware set has a lever handle...

    Triple Fender Holders

I have a pair of Windline brand fender holders that hold three (3) 9"-11" diameter fenders. They mount on the stanchion posts and fold down when not in use. They are stainless, one year old and have been used in fresh water. Here is a link...

    12 volts to 6 volts

Is there a way to reduce 12 volts to 6 volts? I have an intrusion alarm system that runs on 4 AA batteries (6 volts) and I'd like to wire it into the house 12 volt system. As it is now, I have to replace the batteries every 4 weeks ... a major PITA ... especially when the alarm begins to go...

    Peroxide vs. Chlorox

I’m wondering if Peroxide rather than Chlorox might be a better/safer chemical to use in our water tanks to kill bacteria. I do know that Chlorox contains so much chlorine that it will deform and/or destroy anything made of rubber. I used those Chlorox toilet tank tablets at home and they...

    Wing doors/hard enclosure 43DC

I am considering installing wing doors and a hard enclosure on my 1979 43 DC. The 43 DC was built between 1970 and 1984 and I've seen several 43 DC models on Yachtworld that had wing doors and hard enclosures ... but all were constructed differently. I don't think that this was ever offered as...

    Turbo Chargers TI vs TA

I've been looking at 53 and 54 MY's and see that the 53s were offered with 8v71TI's. The 54s have 6v92TA's. What is the maintenance difference between the TI and TA's?? What about service life? I understand most turbo engines are good for about 2000 hours before rebuilds are needed. Thanks.

    Water Pump Cover Plate

Has anyone replaced the cover plates on your water pumps with the quick removal type? They have four (4) knurled (?) head bolts that can be thumb tightened and the cover plate as two screw holes and two slots. You simply remove the two bolts in the holes, loosen the two bolts in the slots and...

    Fuses at Starter Soleniod?

Does anyone know if there are fuses in the wiring from the starter button to the starter soleniod? My starboard starter button on the flybridge does not cause the starter to engage. I've replaced the button but still nothing. Turning "ON" the switch does send power to the alarm panel and the...

    Groco EB Head

One of my Groco EB heads will not pump "water" out. I can step on the foot pedal and press the button to activate the motor and water comes in but releasing the foot pedal does not start the removal process. Any thoughts? If I have to rebuild do I need the regular service kit or the master...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A friend of mine who owns a trucking company (and a 67CPMY with 12V71T's) asked his shop mechanic about this issue and here was his reply: "This was a problem back in 1993 when we when to the LSD or >500 ppm of...

    Temporary Lightmast

The base of the light mast on my 1979 43DC developed some rot ... so until it is repaired I've made a temporary lightmast. I'll try to attach a picture here and I've also put several pictures in my photo album. The existing mast was at an approximate 22.5 degree angle to the deck. I made the...

    Flaking Chrome on Windlass

Some of the chrome is beginning to flake off on the base of my Galley Maid windlass. The boat has always been in fresh water so guess that's why it has lasted 27 years! Any suggestions on a fix? Was thinking about using a chrome spray paint after some light sanding to prevent any rusting. Thxs.

    Weatherboards

I have the Hatteras OEM weatherboards around the aft deck of my 1979 43DCMY. Does anyone know who manufacturers this product and where it can be obtained? Thanks!

    Leaky Raw Water Strainer

The port engine (6-71N) raw water strainer (Groco SA-2500) has developed a slight drip. It appears to be coming from the gasket between the glass bowl and the rear metal end cap as it drips from this lowest point. I have ordered a Groco repair kit as I "ASSUME" that the gasket is failing after...

    Leaking Check Valve

I have noticed lately that when I disconnect the hose from my fresh water inlet that drops of water will leak out. I'm assuming that the check valve needs servicing. Any thoughts? And how do I service the check valve? Thxs.

    Removing wax from Imron

The fellow in the slip next to me has an old Chris Craft that was painted with Imron 9 years ago. He has always used wax and now the shine is "dull" and he's wanting to know how best to remove the wax build-up as he thinks that is the cause. He looks at my Hatt and can't believe that it's a...

    Replacing Isenglas with Acrylic Glass

OK .... after much deliberation I decided to tackle this project myself. My Isenglas had begun to age and was getting a "golden haze" after about two weeks from cleaning and polishing. It would clean up clear but then begin to get the haze. I priced new Isenglas at $2400 and new EZ2CY at any...

    Temperature Gauge Accuracy

My 1979 43DC has the OEM electric AC temp gauges. I have always noticed a difference between the lower helm and upper helm readings ... about 10 degrees ... with the lower helm reading higher. Over the years I've used an IF heat gun to check the temps of the br*** sending units and determined...
