How do I make it go away?

After digesting many good pointers on going about changing out the coolant in my engines I'm haveing a really tough problem trying to find out what is the best way to properly dispose of old engine coolant. (I thought this was mentioned in the past and did a "search" on old Threads). I have...

    Charger/Inverter and AGM batteries

Here's the plan: Replace Gp 8 lead acid (floaded cell) batteries with (4) Gp 31 AGMs. Replace older charger with charger/inverter with 3-setting (led acid, gel, AGM) chargeing capability and 2500 watt output. Or, replace older charger with (separate new) charger and inverter. The needs...

    Prescious Metals

Just recently a guy at WM said that muratic acid will disolve the residual zinc remains that are found clinging inside "pencil zinc" brass plugs (the inside and outside threaded type). Has anybody done this - without harm to the brass - and if so would you dilute the acid? (I'd prefer to do...

    If it ain't broke...break it!

All alternators eventually wear out their bearings. Hence, damage to the brushes. On automobiles (with quiet engines) you can tell by the pitch of the sound coming out of an alternator it the bearings are worn. No big deal to replace or get repaired. The question: when my diesels are running I...

    Downsizing Images

This Forum allows for images of no larger than some 97KBs. I have a few shots of my hull that were taken yesterday but saved then uploaded at much more resolution than 97KBs. Does anyone know of a method or program which I can use to resize (or lower) the file space (KBs) of these any other...

    Non Bleach Mildew Buster

Anybody used this?: chompproducts.com/mildew.htm A recent article in USPS Ensign states that it's good stuff. But you have to order it which I hate (if it's so good why is it not on the retail store's shelf?). Responses are appreciated.

    Blinking LED Lights

In an old thread (2005) someone made mention of small battery powered devices with a blinking red light, which effectively leads an intruder into thinking there is an on-board alarm system. Anyone know where I can find these. (I would be hurt if someone stole my Trasco binoculars! )...

    Cadet Heat Registers

My '88 DC has 2 Cadet Heat (wall) Registers. From all appearances these seem to be OEM. They are not working. Only once about a year ago one came on and was shut off. Never could get it to work again. While the other (2) ships HVAC systems have satisfied our winter and summer needs it's time to...

    A "Sticky" Subject

In a recent thread a member made mention of bonding vinyl to acrylic panels utilizing hot glue. Hot glue is something that I have seen but know absolutely nothing about. I always thought that glue like adhesives is not very permanent. But apparantly there is more to what can be accomplished...

    That old '65

Hey Mario, thats an incredible beautiful boat! When I flip through the pages of any recent boating magazine I get very boared with the oooh, ahhh of the new stuff, knowing that within minutes I could climb around one and find numerous things that would personally turn me off. Basically, I am...

Change the coolant once a year???

Seems I picked this up on an earlier thread. While I have never considered this ("once a year"), it may be good advice. Was wondering what other (panelist) think about peroiodic coolant flush and renewal. (I want to get the most out of my CATs). (Responses please stick to the #$&* thread - dang...

A "Hatteras" tug boat (few were built)

Don't know if this made it in the Forum before I came along. I think Hatteras made an attempt at building a few tug boats. Locals claim they were very worthy vessels: (Be as it may, DON'T TRY THIS WITH YOUR BOAT) http://koti.mbnet.fi/~soldier/towboat.htm (The Molly Brown) Capt'n Bill :o

    SS Zinc Eater...still an issue!

Well, after Karl was kind enough to write out an elaborate step by step plan for isolating the cause of (Nobody You Know)'s excessive (IMHO) bi-annual consumption of zincs I, along with the help of a good friend and captain, went to work. Upon completion of step one in the “Check for DC leakage...

    Zincs

I'm getting only about 5 mounths out of a set of zincs (1988 40' DC). I think I should be getting better than this. We relocated the boat to a temporary location in S.C. recently, and the problem persisted, so apparantly this is not a marina problem. A couple of years ago when I became concerned...

    Goof Off and hull marks?

Re: thread of guy with dock wheel marks. Didn't know Goof Off can be used to remove hull marks. Would like to hear more from anyone with experience. Thanks, Capt'n Bill

    Changing Racors

Anybody got any suggestions when it's advisable to change out racor fuel filters. I'd like to get good life out of mine, but I certainly don't want to push 'em too far and loose an engine while underway do to a clogged filter. What sayeth? Bill

    Air Horns

Seems that everytime I go to take the boat out I have to re-adjust the air horns (unlawful to cruise without proper sounding device). They adjust by loosening the collar nut on the "funnel" and then screwing the funnel in or out (while wife is pressing switch). I don't know if changes in...

    Glendenning Syncs.

I was told that once I reach my desired speed I should then activate the Glendenning Syncronizer, and that starting off from idle with the syncs activated causes stress to the system soloids (or something). Can anyone shed some light on this please? Bill
