We just returned from a visit to Miles River YC. We normally run at 1000 rpm, 8 knots. Today I ran it up to 15 knots for about five minutes to blow the engines out and the voltage on the starboard engine (both helms) dropped to 10-11 volts. We started the generator because this engine ties to...
Seems to be 12 volt problem time on the forum.
The boat is a 1981 Series I 48MY with 6V92 TA's 425HP.
Normally when I start the port side, the volt meters do not show a charge unless/until I rev it up to 1200 RPM or so, then I immediately get a steady 13.8-14 volts at any RPM for as long as...
The water hose connection on my 1981 48MY is leaking. I suspect the connection is not OEM. I tried to unscrew the pot metal Y and could not move it. It appears to be screwed into something that has a 1 1/16" hex nut. All I accomplished is to gouge the pot metal fitting when I tried to unscrew it...
In case any one is interested in one of these anchors, they are again being manufactured, this time in Reedville, VA. http://www.maxmarineproducts.com/

I'll probably change these any way, but thought I'd get others' thoughts.
When I first bought my 48MY 9 years ago, the fuel system was dirty enough that I experienced unexpected shut downs. I added vacuum gages to avoid surprises and get ahead of the issue and now I guess it is pretty well...
As we came past Little Creek, VA last week the USCG broadcast a notice that a 48' Hatteras SF had sunk off Little Creek in 20 feet of water. I never saw anything on the net or news. Does anyone know anything about it?

I thought I'd share the results of cleaning my hull. Before and after pictures below.
I used three table spoons of oxalic acid (wood bleach) and a squirt of Dawn in a small bucket of water. Apply with a soft brush and a few seconds later the ICW mustache is gone.
By the way, before the...
I'd like some suggestions before I get started hunting. I did an engine room check last night and saw the battery charger for the port 8D bank was putting out 7 amps at 12 volts. It turned out to be the port lights. None were on and I didn't see anything amiss, but repeatedly turning this...
Re: "galley down"... any photos of modified dinettes that are more comfortable ?
My 48MY had an uncomfortable dinette seat. I had it modified as shown below and we can sit for hours playing cards etc. The key is a combination of seat back angle and good foam.
Both Gayle and I seem to get poison ivy-like bumps along the edges of our fingers after handling the dock or anchor lines. Can this be an allergy? Has anyone else experienced this?

A good friend has a 12.5 KW 1986 Westerbeke that runs well, but recently stopped generating 120 volts. A test showed 4 volt out put and a mechanic said it needs to be energized by flashing it with 12 volts. So far so good, but the unit is in a factory sound shield which is jammed into a...
Before I re invent the wheel, has anyone removed and replaced the acrylic panels in an EZ2CY enclosure? I have two that are cracked. How did you do it, and what adhesive did you use? Source?

I just upgraded to a larger charger. The ProMariner is in good working order, three bank 30 amp. It was used on my start and house banks. $50 plus packing and shipping from Port St Lucie FL.

For those interested and who may not have see the notification by the FWC, they are looking for boater comments on possible new rules restricting anchoring. You can voice your opinion in the survey FWC is taking. The survey ends December 7. Residents and interested visitors are welcome to reply...
:D The lymphoma is gone. Other things medical seem in order, and hurricane season insurance restrictions are about ended, so it's time to go cruising. Chateau de Mer has spent the summer inside a 'hurricane proof' building at River Forest LaBelle and has gotten some maintenance and TLC things...
