    Gremlins again

We have popped the 20 amp breaker/GFI on the starboard side a couple of times in the past few months. Where should I start to look for the cause? This is so infrequent that I'm expecting it to be a pita. Could it just have gotten weak? On top of all that, we got some rain water into the power...

    Rusty Foot Switch.. WHY??

When we bought our 48MY in 2006, the decks had been repainted ('00) with Imron. The foot switches for the GM windlass were not rusting at all. I decided to repaint the decks with non-skid Algrip and replaced the rubber switch covers at the same time. After that the port side switch began to rust...

    Coolant pump seepage, 6V92TA ..?

The port 6V92TA (425 HP) has developed a slight seepage between the bottom of the circulating pump and the housing that it bolts to. The coolant finds its way down to the drain petcock on the lowest casting. The seepage appears to be coming from a gasket. All bolts are too tight to move with a...

Oil Change: To heat or not to heat

I'm getting ready for my biannual oil change and just wondering if heating up the engine (and engine room) really has any benefit. Here in the Keys, the oil is easily fluid enough for the pump to remove it. I know the argument of stirring up the sediment, but with modern oils and filters, I have...

What, no drains in the chain locker?

I just went looking for the source of a very minor leak, pulled the chain out of the chain locker and found a puddle and NO drain hole. Is this the norm on other Hatts, or do I have a modification by a dumb PO. The follow up question is how the heck can one get a drain into an area that seems...

    Jacksonville City docks and anchorages?

We will be cruising to Jacksonville in April for the MTOA rendezvous at the 'Marina at Ortega Landing' and thought we might spend a few extra days in the area. Can anybody recommend a good nearby anchorage or comment on staying at the free city docks? Bob 48MY Series I

    Engine Gage help needed

We have a 2004 204FX Angler center console with a F150 Yamaha for reef fishing while in the Keys. The dash has Angler gages. One of these is a cluster gage that houses the fuel, battery voltage and engine temperature. When we bought this boat a couple of weeks, the volt meter was working, now...

    Pictures of acrylic wing door

As promised a couple of weeks back, I posted pictures of the acrylic wing doors on the 48MY in the gallery here. http://www.samsmarine.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1269. Sorry to be so late. The photos show the strike, latch and hinge for anyone wanting to see the detail. Bob

What is that stuff and can I fix it?

The weather boards below the hand rail on our 48MY are showing signs of water intrusion at the lower edges in some places. So far the inside surfaces are ok, just some peeling on the outsides. What is this stuff made from and can it be repaired with epoxy filler and repainted? The stuff...

    Flourescent dye markers for oil?

I'm still trying to track down the last few oil leaks on the 6V92TA's. My mechanic says I'm too fussy, all DD's leak, but I'd rather go the extra mile. Has anyone tried to use the flourescent dye markers to find the source of slow leaks? How did it work out? Bob

    Would any one know....

...where I can get an AC gear oil pressure gage for a dual station 6V92/Allison set up from the early '80s? Part number is SW 27237. Mike at SAMS says they were discontinued. Thanks. Bob

    Alternate design for steep stairs?

Has anyone looked at modifying the steep stairs on some of the older boats to reduce the riser height to be more like those in a house? We are having some issues with the steep risers, 11" in one case and have considered an alternative design like that shown here...

    Southern Hurricane Holes or Marinas?

We have been slowly making our way south from Baltimore allowing the hurricane season to pass and have spent a few days in Charleston, SC. The waterway south of here doesn't seem to have much in the way of hurricane holes, so I'm writing to ask if anyone can recommend hurricane holes or well...

One Crap Can fills up faster- Why?

The starboard crap can on the 6V92TA's fills up in 100-150 hours, while I get nothing in the port can. Both engines were majored and have about 800 hours. Where does the oil come from? Why the difference and should it be fixed? Sounds like a pricey thing to do. Certainly vs. the cost of a couple...

    Hour meter fuses blowing?

Any ideas? The port hour meter on the 6V92's went through three fuses in the past year and the starboard just blew one. It looks like the fuses only protect the meters and they are 15A fuses. Seems a lot for just a meter. ideas anyone? Bob

Vacuflush advice needed - doesn't hold vacuum

I need some advice on where to look for a vacuum leak on the vacuflush. The leak is a strange one and I need to set the stage for the problem. Back in the spring, a friend flushed a paper towell that took a few weeks to jam up the system. Prior to that it was working fine. After retrieving the...

DD motor oils again - Rotella gone in NE?

I switched to Rotella T40 on my last oil change in the Keys and now up in the Baltimore area I cannot find it. The story is the distributer has dropped it and can only get 15W40 which I'm not about to use.. What are you guys finding to be easily available in the MD/DE region? Or maybe some one...
