    The Dentist and Dawn

My dentist mentioned "Dawn" today, but he didn't mean the Chairside's name. Well, we all know that "Dawn" is the all purpose cleaning, etc. fluid; that and WD40. No, Duck Tape is not a fluid. Today I am in the dentist's chair for an extended period and there is a lot of chatter to listen to...

    What's a Hatteras?

Conversation with 30-40 somethings, two married couples, last week (Sept 2017), who were both Cruisers, Inc owners: about 33' but 39' overall. Boats came up in the conversation and I was asked what I had: "a Hatteras, a 43' MY", says I. "What's a Hatteras?", they responded; "...how do you...

Onan MDJE Raw Water Pump Not Pushing Water/ Cure

My Onan MDJE raw water pump stopped pumping water this year. I would help it get prime and it would pump for awhile, but then act erratically. Finally, I was out for a short day cruise, running the genny underway, and she lost prime again, overheating, losing internal coolant and the overheat...

    Flybridge Re-Core

Re: Flybridge Re-Core/ Sheet with Hole Pictures of the sheet of fiberglas pulled off with a hole about 2" dia. Ok, the hole covered a solid stub of epoxy resin and there are two of them behind the bridge chair. Any know what they are for? I have no clue. The rope is so I can lower it away.

    Flybridge Re-Core

Pictures of what I pulled off today, but I won't have more of the deck, until later. I pulled the pilot's chair (heavy bugger!) and vacuumed off the sheet I cut off. Chair is ratty, but I will re-finish her with 1990 Hatt paint.

    Flybridge Re-Core

This is regarding my re-coring efforts of the Flying Bridge of my 1972 43' DCFB. I bought her in 1997, and only used the FB for a couple years. I knew the coring was going bad, but it can be amazing how difficult it is to secure tradesman; even the yards have a hard time finding good people...

    Falling For Your Boat

Well, I am hoping to be more active on the SM website. My Dad died five years ago, who was a massive fan of the boat, a 1972 43' Hatt DCFB MY. When he passed away, some family members went totally haywire and created massive havoc in the family, esp. for me physically and emotionally. I had...

    Windlass Politics

So some winlasses are left of center, while others are on-center (observed). There is no direct discussion in any of these threads about this location. I will be installing a new Maxwell, bought from Sams, on a '72 DCFB with an existing pulpit, but no prior windlass. If installed on center...

    Tool Bags

I have tried several tool bags for various purposes, over the years. So for grins, I did some good ole' Googling on tool bags. One brand had constant high marks called 'Veto'. Cheap they are not, but they have a 5 year 'no down time' guarantee, and they are very heavy duty and they don't fall...

    Comments on Windows Frames/ Positive

Pix after used Dremel saw to remove sections of wood. This shows the "good" wood vs. the backing board, which is against the salon fibeglas walls. The openings are a little (?) rough and I will be cleaning them up at the corners and sanding to level out.

    Comments on Windows Frames/ Positive

Appearance where rotted...from today Jun 28,2014:d Center section where had rot. Had two such areas, but at each end of the center window that had been leaking. Frankly it looked worse than I thought it would, once I had the frames pulled and uncovered the wood. But when when the bad area was...

    Comments on Windows Frames/ Positive

I have just finished pulling the window frames on one side of the salon of my 1972 43'DCFB. As they say, they were "really in there"; about three days of major grunting! Mostly a high effort of dragging out hardened caulking...good aerobic workout. I must say that the quality of the...
