    Forget all these head arguments...

Atlantes, VacUflush, etc? Heck with that old, low tech cr@p! (no pun intended) http://www.ubergizmo.com/2010/10/numi-integrated-toilet-from-kohler-wins-approval-from-fcc/

    Nuclear Power

I gotta admit that my previously favorable view of nuclear power is rapidly disintegrating based on the problems in Japan. Despite what anybody may say, there is no way to "earthquake proof" anything. I realize that the problems in Japan seem to be primarily a result of the Tsunami, not the...

I continue to be amazed by the media

ABC news lists a headine on their site stating "Second nuclear explosion in Japan." http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/second-nuclear-explosion-in-japan-13130309 I am just appalled at such irresponsible and totally out-of-line "journalism." Stating "nuclear explosion" when it had nothing...

Is this the only dang thing we know how to do/say?

Re the shooting in Germany the President said: "I want everybody to understand that we will spare no effort in learning how this outrageous act took place and in working with German authorities to ensure that all of the perpetrators are brought to justice." Can't anybody say something like...

Wish I had the money for a fast car...

The latest version of the Bugatti Veyron can hit 267MPH BUT, only the first 30 buyers get that capability. The rest of us are stuck with the "standard" version which is electronically limited to 257MPH. What a pisser that would be - to be stuck with the low performance version for 2.7 MILLION...

    Water "power"

This seems like perpetual motion to me. I don't see how it's possible to do this economically but I'm no physicist... http://wn.com/danny_klein's_water_powered_car_homemade_h2o_hybrid_vehicle

I got a call from West Marine...

Since it concerns parts/prices, I figured it would go here in technical but if I'm wrong about that, don't hesitate to move it. One of their reps called me in response to a rather unfavorable response to a survey of theirs several months ago. My objection was that their prices were...

I can't believe the CRAP that ends up as "news"

There's some "news" that the star, Betelgeuse, could explode and give us a "second sun" for a few weeks this year. Sounds pretty exciting! Well, except the part, later in the article, stating that it could happen as soon as this year or anytime within the next MILLION years. I don't...

    Ya gotta love Texas!

Front page of the San Antonio Express-News (I'm in SA at the moment) has a local story where a burglar broke into the house of an 82 year old man/64 year old wife. The wife shot/killed the burglar. No charges whatsoever; police spokesman said that based on Texas laws, burglers should think...

Picture-taking - sad what we now accept...

The Luddite in me demands I post this... We were in Panama recently and I shot pics at the canal with both my digital DSLR and and an old Leica M6 shooting Velvia 100 (slide film). I posted a few pics on this site. Yesterday I had the slides developed here in Mexico City (got them the same...

I've got the "hole in the water"

And now I have the water too! Two days ago we bought the slip in our condo marina where our boat has been the past 18 months. So now I not only own a hole in the water, I own the water that the hole fits it! I guess that means I no longer lose money by throwing it in the hole in the water...

    Drain for water tanks?

After nearly 7 years with our 53 MY I should know this but I never thought about it until this morning as I start winterizing: Is there a drain plug in the fresh water tanks? Normally pump the water out of the tanks for winterizing but depending on how much is in there (I just filled them when...

    West Marine again..

I know this is a re-rant but... I do NOT understand how this company stays in business. I went there yesterday to check the price of pink antifreeze. They had -50 pink at 5.99 gal. I said, "WOW, this stuff has gone up!" The store guy asks me how much I need and I tell him 6 cases (36 gal)...

    Talking about Generators...(sandbar)

Every so often, our 16KW NL genny will almost come to a stop when one of the ac units cycle. I'm not sure which one causes it but it doesn't seem to cause it every time it cycles - just occasionally. Any idea what might cause a heavy elec load to be applied on starting sometimes but not always?

    Generator - Got Lucky!

I got here yesterday to winterize the boat. about 20 minutes ago the power went out at the marina due to high water; I turned on the genny. About 5 minutes later there was a loud knocking on the door - two of my fellow marina-ites hollered, "There's no water coming out your genny exhaust."...

60 ft Hatt goes through the Panama Canal

Miraflores locks, he's northbound- Yep...that's all you can see...cost him 1200 bucks according to the "commentator" who talks about each boat as it goes through This Greek Petroleum tanker paid 900K USD Only cost us a total of 7 bucks to watch!

    Off to Panama today...

No, not by boat. Wife has a meeting there and I'm going because I always wanted to see the (now Chinese-run) canal! A few years ago, when we first moved to Mexico, we thought about bringing the boat down here and keeping it in Ixtapa. That would have meant going through the canal - either on...

Now the price of gas rises due to ethanol!

They've found yet another way to increase the price of gas when the price of crude doesn't conveniently go up... "Ethanol is up substantially in the last couple of weeks, and it makes a mark on gasoline prices," Lundberg said. http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/10/24/gas.prices/

    Tach calibration ??

Yesterday I decided I would calibrate the oem tachs (Sun tach senders on Glendinning, elec tachs at helms) to get them as "spot on" as I could. But I found that the calibration screw in the back of the tachs had no effect on the reading at all. Moving them full travel in either direction did...
