I have a compression tank sitting above and connected to the Port engine. No such tank on the SB engine.
I have researched but cannot find why only the Port Engine has the tank in question. I would appreciate any comments. Much to learn about the DD setup.

As an aside, I found the L-Shaped 12” metal tube that ties the compressor hose to the Port engine to be loose and rotating freely. I took it off, realigned it and retightened. Still loose at the engine attachment end despite being fully tightened.

Compressed air tank for air-operated windshield wipers and air horn? If so only pt engine has an engine driven air compressor. Normally set for 100-125 psi. The compressor is really heavy duty as it is designed to charge air brakes on 18 wheeler trucks. Always runs when engine operating. I never heard anything about this compressor needing maintenance. Has its own sensor to regulate pressure. Makes for a really loud horn and powerful wipers. I tapped off this and added a 15 ft air hose so I could fill bicycle tires and fenders, also a fitting to blow out filters, etc. Very handy!

Why would you want two compressors? They re pretty reliable so no need for a back up

Compression or expansion tank?
Pictures would really help here..

And they do wear out. They can be rebuilt however.

Pau Hana had the tank... But no other components. Removing the tank was on my to-do list... I miss my boat.

Thank you all for the replies. Makes total sense for the Horn & Windshield wipers, but why is connected to the engine? I must be missing something obvious.

Because the air compressor is on the engine?

The compressed air comes from the engine-driven compressor mounted on the engine.
