I broke off the port trim tab and actuator and am looking for a part / model number to order a replacement. They are Bennett tabs. A fluid leak caused my port Bennet trim tab to collapse while underway. It looks like it may be bent, and will not move. I am currently on the loop and will be arriving in Fort Myers within the next week. Can anyone recommend a good technician to repair it while I am docked at Legacy Harbour...

    43' Defever sinks in Tenn-Tom

Here's a copy of a post in today's AGLCA forum cautioning fellow loopers about passing tows(tugs pushing barges) This past Friday we met a tow named Chippewa on the Tenn-Tom near mile marker 218. The captain, as usual, was very helpful in negotiating a smooth meeting on the "ones". We had a 43...

Heading south on the Great Loop

Departed southern Lake Huron on August 16th heading north, then south on Lake Michigan though Chicago to the Florida Keys. Should be a wonderful thing staying in flip flops for the next ten months rather than putting the boat on the hard for the winter and getting out the boots and gloves. So...

    gfi replacement

The factory installed GFI which services my galley and head occassionally trips for no apparent reason. I can't find anything in the wiring so I think its just an age thing. I know these don't last forever, and after 25 years I'd like to replace it. Question: can I just install an off the shelf...

    Are 2 batteries enough

Hi folks. My Hatt has the original 2 battery set up, one for the starboard engine and generator and one for the port engine and house use. On my upcoming loop trip, I'm wondering if my single port engine/house battery will be enough to run my Norcold fridge overnight while at anchor without...

engine room access panels in salon floor

My engine room access panel in my salon floor is quite heavy, awkward to lift out to check my engines, and its a pain to put it somewhere while I head down below. Has anyone tried putting this panel on hinges, with gas assisted struts to help lift/lower and keep it open? Perhaps the bigger boats...

what is this ? Trim tab stuff?

Here I go again showing my lack of knowledge as I figure out the boat .... the attached picture shows a black box with an opaque bottom section located at the stern of my lazarette. I am wondering if this holds hydrolic fluid for my trim tab system, and how I service / maintain it? How to open...

    lightning protection

I'm heading to Florida next winter which I am told has more lightning strikes than other areas of the US, and I am wondering if Hatteras built any lightening protection into their boats in the mid 1980's. Forum searches reflect multiple threads where the whole issue of lightning protection is...

48' Sportfish being auctioned in Lauderdale

A friend of mine is interested in a '88 48' Sportfish being auctioned off by National Liquidators in Ft. Lauderdale. He went down this week and looked at it and the interior need redoing but otherwise seems solid. Priced at $129,900 but thinks it might go for less. Does anyone know this boat /...
