Jacksonville, FL area DD Mechanic, Diver, Wash/Detailer, etc..

Who to avoid at all costs? That's easy: Sean Silverman. That dude set the injection timing so far off on my engines I wound up with broken rings and had to rebuild both engines. $70k nightmare. Plus just all around weird, he and his helper would show up at like midnight and work until 4am, stuff...

    Ethical Question

I'd make the guy move. You've already done the right thing and talked to him, it sounds like he's placing his personal preference for having his 40' boat inside a 58' slip over your actual need of you can't have the boat unless you can't have the slip. Those two things aren't the same, and it...

What Would You Choose / AGM or Lithium for House Bank?

I only have a 53 with one gen, but the former owner installed an inverter system and dedicated house bank (of AGM's - he was vocal about not liking lithium batteries because of the well-known fire risk). The reality is it's a waste of money - I never use the inverter. He lives in Northern VA, so...

    Racor air leaks

I think they do. Almost as soon as you start turning the handle but before there's no pressure on the lid seal, you can hear it start sucking air into it.

Raw water intake hose - debacle of the day

Would rather stretch a slightly smaller hose than rely on clamps alone to hold a slightly larger one in place any day of the week. Greatly reduces your chances of it popping off underway. Plus there is no point in a bigger hose when you have several smaller fittings that are restriction points...

    Racor air leaks

I can answer this question for you since I have one new racor on one engine and one old racor on the other. Is what you want to know whether the new style handle works with the old lid? I can swap the handles and see if the leak changes sides or if they both leak after that and let you know ...

    1986 54' MY - Min bid $50k - Cooper Capital

Agreed, fiberglass repairs are common here in FL and not all that expensive. The weatherboard is still made and available from Sam's, not super expensive. Two broken windows also not that big of a deal. I'm surprised they totaled this boat. All I can guess is if it was that year we had 3...

    Racor air leaks

Tell me about it. The embarrassing part is I had this issue on the other engine first, so I took the Racor apart and replaced every seal on it, but it still wouldn't stop leaking. I threw in the towel and told the marina to fix it, same thing happened to them so they installed a new Racor for...

    Engine Alignment Question

This is something I would let the marina do, it's a tedious job. But that's just me. I know some people really insist on doing it themselves and I respect that. With that said, the marina has a laser sight gauge for this purpose that seems to deliver a better result. Whether you could make...

Let's play "What the heck is that?!" and how do I fix it?

This ain't that complicated...in your picture it's got a wire running into it. So unplug it, start the engine, and then go see what stopped working. That'll be your answer. My guess is tach sender, but not certain. I've had to do this a lot over the years to solve minor mysteries like this, new...

    Racor air leaks

There’s a black and a red round seal in slightly different thicknesses that cover the standard T-handles and the gauge/handle combo depending on which you have, but what these guys above are saying (and they’re right - I went and looked as soon as I read this) is that the new T-Handles have a...

    Racor air leaks

I just got the last one on ebay. Can't find anything about that part number, but it does come in this seal kit racor sells...

    Racor air leaks

Ralph, can I get a couple of these from you? I’m having this exact problem and didn’t realize what it was until I read this thread. My old o ring split and I changed it to try and fix the leak, but it’s the red one like in the picture and it slowed the leak but I still have to fill up the racor...

    Racor air leaks

Helpful blast from the past. I am dealing with this issue right now and was getting frustrated and about to replace the whole racor. Thanks for the part number.

Anyone Been Through Caesar Creek Lately?

I don’t like to take routes like that in the Hatt. There’s something about the hull design on these, when you have 3’ or less under the keel the boat sucks itself down onto the bottom and bends the props if you run much above idle. You have to take your schedule into account because there’s no...
