    Wing door stain

I am working on brite work and need to refinish my wing doors and frames on my 1982 48 MY. I was wondering if anyone knows what stain Hatteras used on these originally. Thanks Chris

    Fuel Seps

I saw Walker fuel seps advertised on Boat Diesel. Anybody using them and if so do they work. They claim a 5% reduction in fuel use. Also less transom soot. Chris

    Allison question

It seems I have lost prime on my stb transmission pump. Allison 1:5's. I had no pressure on the gauge. So I loosened the output hose on the pump with the engine running and found no output. I removed the suction line from the three bolt fitting to the pump to check for possible air leaks and...

    Niads

Niads are going back together. Here are some photo's of the lower seals. These are what need to be serviced at least biannually to save larger service cost down the line. Chris

    Niads

Finally made time to get my Stab's back together. Ready now for a late launch. What I learned from servicing the Niads is in the future I will change the lower seals every 2nd year. The lower seals are easy to change and inexpensive. And if they leak like mine did the service gets very...

    Niad Maintenance.

Remove the shafts on the Niads this weekend for maintenance. Not a bad job with help from people at stabilized marine. The bearings and races are all in good shape. The seals need replaced. Stabilized people say replace them every 2 to 3 years. They also suggested larger fins for my boat. I...

    The Pits

Finished my shaft stuffing boxes, now doing the rudders. I removed the rudders a found the shafts are pitted where they contact the packing. Not deep, about 1/16". They were not leaking before but they were way to tight. Whoever packed them last used flax and some type of grease that was dried...

    shaft coupling

Got my stuffing boxes cleaned up and back in place. Now I am ready to bolt the shaft coupling back up. The shaft coupling is sitting about 3/8" lower than the trans coupling. I can raise the shaft up by hand pretty easy to mate the two up. The cutlass bearings are tight. Shaft turns free by...

    Time for a new refrigerator

I am looking at getting a new refrigerator for my 48MY. The one I have now is old, dated looking so I want to replace it. Problem is getting a new one in without removing a window. I found a company that makes modular refrigerators -- they come apart and reassemble. The manufacturer is Cospolich...

    Stuffing Box

I am getting ready to repack my shaft boxes because noticed my gland is not centerd on the shaft. See photo. Anyone know if I can recenter this on the shaft when I repack it or do I have an alignment problem. I don't have any heavy leaking at the packings at all. Just a small drip.
