    The LRC...is it really?

I've always wondered about the LRC's. I'm no naval arhcetect, but once I stayed at a holiday in express, and I did work for one for a while.

I came across some pictures of a 65 LRC out of the water. Looking at the hull I see some hard chines toward the rear half and I don't see a nice round rear end....

To me it doesn't seem to be modified that much from a normal MY. Why not just get a MY and stick small engines in it and swing a big prop?

    1...2...3....DISCUSS!

Does the MY carry 2400 gallons of fuel, 400 gallons of water and 200 gallons of water?
And does it weigh 52 tons?

Just the weight comparison should make a statement......

But, to answer your question....yes, you could put small engines in a 58' MY and go slow. One could also cruise slowly with the current iron that's deep in her belly. That would be my choice.

FWIW, the 58 LRC (first Hatt we were ever aboard) seems HUGE on board compared to a 58 MY. We always said that the 58LRC is the hatt we really wanted but at the time, they were far above our budget. And now, even if we could buy one, it won't fit in our slip.

Our friends that own the LRC used to laugh about it (they go back/forth from LI SOund to FL every year in it), saying it had three speeds, idle, cruise, and WOT...and they were all 9 knots!

It appears to be shaped like a semi displacement hull. What is the hull speed on that model, if anyone knows.

Hull speed of the 65 is about 11 knots. 58' is about 10 knots.
As Mike mentioned, most of us cruise at 8-9 knots.
