  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
The 60' DK model has a shower and AC drain sump box and sump-pump under a hatch, located outside of the the Master Head, kinda in-line with the Stbd stringer, and a smidge aft of the door. I took that AC condenser drain and relocated both it and the shower drain into a new sump and pump box to a spot inside and under the floor of the head. I left the old sump box in place, but it has no bilge/sump pump anymore, b/c. well, everything drains into the new-replacement sump box. Yesterday, the old sump box was about 1/3 full of water. Hmmmm, I said. I got the old DryVac and sucked it all out. Or so i thought. When I came back to look, the damn sump box was filling again, from the bottom up, via the old bilge pump screw holes. After 4 loads (what is that 10 gallons?) of water, the rate of re-fill slowed, but I'm STILL getting water in that old sump box. What I can see of the bilge around the old box ( said box having been fiber-glassed in nicely, thank you ) is dry as a bone.

WTF is UNDER that sump box?

IF (all CAPS intended) it's part of the 'regular' bilge system, I'd have thought limber holes would take that water down to the mid-ship bilge. And while that also has some water in it, I'd have thought that the area under the Master would drain into that mid-ship area, and not just 'hang out' under the Master (and water and fuel tanks) and squirt up into the old sump box like a well filled pimple.

Clogged limber holes?
No limber holes from the Master bilge to the Mid-Ship bilge?
If there are no limber holes feeding water to the mid-ship bilge, then where the Frack is the "Master StRm bilge" pump? I've seen one, under the Master bunk, aft, nearly between the rudder posts.

The (old) Head / AC Sump wouldn't overflow and drain aft-wards, but rather fore-wards. Right?
It certainly wouldn't "capture" water and then free-flow it upwards into the old sump-box.

What am I missing?

The plans I have show nuthing of value; and give no hints. I'm stumped.

I think that the original shower sump is built into the void formed by the keel . I also think this foam filled. Somehow water is getting in to this void . Drill a large hole in the bottom of the sump , you can fiberglass over this later . Pump the water out and watch how quickly it fills , if it does. I don’t like how the sumps are screwed into the stringers . They are usually tabbed in place , which would be enough. When the screws corrode , a path to the interior of the stringers is formed.

There are limber holes to bring water from the aft bilge if the aft pump fails to the port and stb midship bilges .

Is the water fresh or salt?
