Turbo V Clamps 12V71ti

One of the turbo clamps has let go.

I cannot find the right size here in Australia. The closest V Clamp replacement I can find has the V valley is too wide and too deep.

The old clamp is 4.75" ID when fiully closed, and there is approximately 1" of gap when tightened on flange. The valley depth is 4mm. The valley width is 9mm.

(The new unsuitable clamp is 5.5" ID when fully closed. Valley Depth 7mm, Valley Depth 11mm.) Next size down is 4". )

So it looks like the old clamp is special for this turbo set up. (The only clamps available in Australia are too high and wide in the valley. I guess for trucks.)

Dooes anybody know the correct part number please? Where to buy?

I had trouble finding turbo clamps on my 12V71's. I stopped in Marine Systems in New Iberia, LA and the guy at the counter sales was super helpful. He said Detroit no longer made a couple of them and wound up getting them for me from his turbo rebuilder in Arizona. I would reach out to them. They do alot of work on oilfield supply boats and tugs, many which are still running 12V71's

Check this out. Scroll down to page 24. All the sizes and instructions on how to measure them are there. I've used Breeze clamps in the past and was happy with them.

Some of those turbo clamps for the 12v71 for my turbos were not in those charts. It may have been the big narrow one that held the airside to the exhaust side if I recall

Update.... the first DD equivalent arrived adn was farr too big.

I have a smaller size / different brand arriving today and will post measurements of the flange and V Clamp if its correct.

I bit the bullet and called the MTU distriburtor in Asutralia. They had the correct Vcamp in stock, but were unsure if was the correct size. Despite it being twice the parice in Aujstralia I bought it anyway and it was correct.

For DD 12V71ti Marine Applications............

The part number is 05132650.
CLAMP ASM MARMON TBOLT 5.25

Problem solved.

Near a month later and a few more grey hairs (any left) we may all have learned a lesson here;
When in doubt, bite the bullet and call the Detroit/MTU shop.

Hope you inspected all other clamps well and/or ordered a spare.
