The ole Prop/Rated Rpm thread

When taking that into consideration, a repitch might be the more prudent option.

I would start there. Get them pitched to get the proper RPM. Then evaluate. If you're not happy with smoothness or speed, keep those for spares and buy new.

If your primary goal is to pick up approximately 100 rpm then have 1” of pitch taken out of the wheels. Depending on the age of the props they are probably Michigan Dynamo quads, which is a well made, smooth running prop. If you hit the rpm’s that you want keep them for spares.

Do you have the traditional Hatteras water in keel? Instead of taking pitch from our props, we pumped out the keel and the boat came alive. It was like having an extra fuel tank full all the time. Water line rose two inches as well. Just a thought

What was your method of removal? And how do you continually remove the water?

used a hole saw and cut a 6" hole between the engines, dug out the old foam all the way to the bottom of the keel. This allowed the water a place to run to and we pumped it out from there. Beware, the water will stink but your engines will thank you and the "Hatteras smell" will go away too. When done, installed a round hatch for access to monitor

So after going through the floor was there no glass barrier between the foam and where you went through???

How much water are we talking about?

I have the same exact boat as Sonic Boom and sit at leat 1" lower in the water than his boat. Something to look into.

I know of a 60C with a drain plug installed in the bottom of the keel to let water out when its on the hard. The problem with most of these boats is that there are fuel tanks over/into the keel. Finding an access point is difficult.

figure out where tanks are before you cut inside the boat or pull the boat out and drill a hole in the keel. This is the third Hatt we've done this too and all three keels were full of water

Well I do have a short haul scheduled soon, but my yard is not excited about putting in a plug. I would love to find a way in there from the ER which would be covered by the walk way, forward and aft of any fuel tanks.

You don’t need a plug. Drill and repair when dry. When needed again drill and repair the same spot. But you might need more time than a short haul. Maybe a SS cover plate sealed with 4200 against bare fiberglass. The water can drip for months. This would solve that issue.

I drilled the keel on my 46 last time I hauled out. Had about 6 holes evenly spaced. I had about 5 gallons come out immediately from one hole and a little from a couple of the others. Three of them dripped then weeped for about two weeks. I glassed them back in with a few layers of cloth after grinding a divot around the holes.

PO cut a 2' long hole between the engines in mine, dug out as much foam as he could to get to glass and then mounted the center bilge pump in there. the pump is a real PIA to get to for any servicing. i dont know how much more foam is in there, ive dug out as much as i can, but it stinks. i pour dawn in there to keep it at bay.

Hmmm, now your getting into Fall Cruising Time sitting around the yard. ;) I am going peak around in the Engine tomorrow.

Hmmm, I guess I always thought the engine hall way was the bottom of the boat? I can't wrap my head around drilling a big access hole in the center. ;)

I really think my keel water may have originally came up through some drilled holes in the ac drain sump forward in the ER.

AC Sump that once had several holes in it.
