  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
Probably 1977 we were fishing Chub Cay a new 53c “Pocket change” pulled in. Talked to the crew found it belonged to Ted Turner. This was long before CNN and cable tv was still only in areas of no TV reception. I fished several days with the captain and mate before Turner arrived in an old Dassault Falcon 10. That boat was the first 53c with tunnels and there was a lot of vibration and cavitation. I saw the boat several years later at Rybovitch having the tunnel s removed. Turner also had a 64 Halmatic which he docked at the end of Worth ave in Palm beach. It was named CATV which I thought at the time meant CAT 5 but later figured it out.

Nice to know we are in the company of greatness. I remember reading his book "The Mouth of the South".
He also started Ted's Montana Grill which has awesome Bison and Beef Steaks.

I met Ted at the OLD Hartsville airport (late 70s). Going to a tech school in Atl and working for an early morning courier company. I was in underground Hartsville at 0500 every morning. So was TT.
We would pass and say hello most mornings. One morning he stopped and we chatted. No idea what about now. Then every morning always big waves.
Later he finally started CNN.
I really did not know much about him them but thought he was O K.
Then, Jane Fonda rolled in the pictures and ruined all my good thoughts.
Well, Even I F'd up and married a monster.

RIP Ted.

Well he did wise up and divorced her.

Didn't he spend alot of time on blowboats

Yeah he successfully defended and won the cup at least once in the late 70s

Ralph, who’s Jane Fonda? Oh you mean Hanoi Jane the Traitor ?

"Good night, Jane Fonda!" anyone?

That is the one.
She should still be in jail if not for the family name (money), support from the media and deep-state.

I sailed in the Congressional Cup regatta in Long Beach Ca in 1970. He skippered one of the boats. We beat him and everyone else that year. He spoke at the trophy dinner after quite a few drinks and was outrageously funny.

My bud in Bismarck who is a rep for the company I retired from told me this true story. There was a very popular steak house in Montana near Ted's ranch. The line was very long and Ted went to the Maitre D and asked if the guy knew who he was. The Maitre D was also the owner and happened to be a Vietnam Vet. He replied, yes Mr. Turner but you will have to wait in line like everyone else. By the way she (referring to HJ) is not welcome here! Ted and HJ left.

Hi latest boat is a 49 Eastbay.

Looking after an older Hatters is "Greatness"!

Turner gave the commencement speech at my college graduation. Although amusing, mostly incoherent and rambling. We all later learned he drank alone for several hours at the local bar beforehand. To be fair, they did make a mean drink.

FWIW he had a personality like a fart. The majority of celebrities I’ve met boating usually did. Probably the worst was Walter Cronkite when I was running the boat Cape May to Florida every year I’d usually run into him at Coinjock or AYB area. One year when my son was an infant my wife put the stroller out on the dock while she got him off the boat. Mr self important walks down the dock with his ankle biter dog and yells at her for blocking the dock.
