  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
So my 58’ YF lives in a covered slip up in northern Alabama. I get to the boat on weekends. During summer I have all windows open for air circulation, and as you can imagine temperatures inside get pretty warm. During winters, I have heat that turns on and off at certain temperature. Don’t have that as an option right now for AC. thoughts on what others would do/ are doing in similar situation. Also what are people doing for controlling odors in boat, i.e engine smell? I leave my engine room open when not running it. Thanks for the input!

I would repair the air conditioning.

What others do? I turn on the air conditioner.

Is yours broken or your shore power setup won't allow you to run them?

I keep the ERs closed on my 53MY not sure why you d want them open to the interior.

Fix the ac sooner than later. It's not that hard to repair or replace it but without it the boat will suffer

I had a friend who had a slip where the marina paid electricity and wouldn't let him run his a/c except on weekends or when he was staying there. He put a dehumidifier with a drain hose/pump in the boat and routed the drain hose to a sink. It didn't keep the boat cool but kept the humidity and mold down

I hauled uncovered on Okeechobee waterway for 75 days of hurricane season last year. Put 3 dehumidifiers - one in salon, one in galley and one at entrance of master with all doors closed and all drains run to sumps (galley down 67CMY). Boat was perfectly fine afterwards and I’ll do it again if I have to go without ac when it’s hot.

Buy a portable air conditioner, and install it in your master or wherever you sleep.

Set AC for dehumidify or 78-80 and run it. Humidity is the bigger challenge to manage vs temp.
