I need help locating stuffing boxes for a 53C that I run with 12v71TI. Boat currently has some ATF cooled seals that are shot.
After a lot of back and forth between PSS, Tides Etc. Just decided to go with some stuffing boxes. Only problem is that I can not find them anywhere. Probably because of their size: 2 1/2” shafts and 4” stern tubes. Anyone have an idea where i can find some Buck Algonquins? Any reliable sources I can use? Yes i have Sams looking for me as well. Actually hoping a member has a set of them in their workshop. lol either way let me know

Regards

Chris

Does it have to be Buck? Groco, Perko or others?

Curious why you don't want to go with Tides or similar?
I've had good success using General Propeller for hard to locate parts.
Also, Buck Algonquin has been very helpful on the phone for me.

The main distributor for Buck-Algonquin these days is Deep Blue Yacht Supply, they can order you one in any size you want. For whatever it's worth I feel you're wise in limiting your search to them, that's one of the last manufacturers where everything is made here instead of China.

Pretty sure BA doesn't have a "main" distributor, Deep Blue does have a really good website along with great search engine placement manipulation. Looks like the the BA part number is 00PB250GHN (2-1/2" shaft x 4" id hose) with $2,121 list price, sells for $1485, no wonder the composite shaft seals are so popular. Tides with same spec lists at $855, sells for $684. Btw, we've been running Tides since the late 90's without any issues.

It’s indeed a 4” stern tube which so a 3.5” hose wouldn’t work. So it has to be 2.5” to a 4” hose. I’m being hauled out at Merritts Boat Yard at the end of the month and the yard foreman Mark Hanke suggests the stuffing boxes over any other seal for their durability and simplicity. He hasn’t seen the shafts but he wants them to be absolutely perfect if we are putting a seal in. Hence the Stuffing boxes. The Boat is in Charter and fishes about 2k hours a year. I spoke directly with Buck Algonquin and they do not have them in stock. They are waiting on the castings. They expect to have them available around mid December.

Maybe contact Marine Hardware for some traditional type bronze stuffing boxes, friend was doing a repower on his Viking last year, they were the only ones that had what he needed for his new shafts in stock. https://www.marinehardware.com

How about a 3.5" to 4" silicone hose reducer to use to be able to use the available BA part?
